[APP][Pro] Amazon - Alexa

Making it harder or impossible?

As I’m just a “user”, I would like to ask you what your opinion in this matter is….

Do things like that happen often and do you think that problem ( which is obviously coming from Amazon) will get sorted in near future?

Sorry for wasting your time :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hi Toby,

until yesterday I was having exactly the same issues as you, but after updating the Echo app and logging in again, everything got fixed.

Since then, I haven’t had any disconnections, and to be honest, my Echo even seems a bit more responsive to Homey commands.

It’s quite strange though, because I’m in Italy and, if I’m not mistaken, you’re in Germany so I’d rule out any server-related issues.

Are you sure you didn’t change something in your configuration and now can’t log in properly?

Regards

Luca.

Ciao Luca

Thank you for your message.

I’m glad to hear that your system is back to business :star_struck:

Unfortunately I’m still not able to re-connect to the server.

I guess you are using the echo app. I’m apparently using the Alexa app. I heard they are actually using the same login protocols so I don’t know why I’m not able to re-connect🤷🏼

I just tried to login with the echo app.

Works fine here as well !

just to confirm are you using the Amazon Echo app? we’re talking about the Alexa app. I haven’t had any issues so far with the Amazon Echo app yet but its still early days.

I’ll likely have both the Alexa app and Amazon Echo homey app running. I’ll use the Amazon Echo app if my announcements fails or it loses connection to Amazon.

the reason why i went with echo speakers is at the time i got all of them they were really cheap to cover my house, garage and backyard. the sonos app is reliable but its just way too expensive buy to cover my house, garage and backyard. hopefully the upcoming black friday sales i can get maybe 1 or 2 if im lucky and that should be ok to use as a backup.

Yes, I have problems with the Alexa app.

The echo app works fine

Great news, Toby!
The only thing I don’t understand is, if they’re using the same system, why does one keep not working while the other solves all the problems?

Not really great actually :joy:

I want to get back to the Alexa app as I have lots of other alexa devices and lots of flows within that app.

Yes, I saw the huge list of your devices! Let’s hope it gets resolved :crossed_fingers:

there’s a slight difference between them. this one can add different devices whereas the Amazon Echo has the option for only Echo devices and groups. you will see that on the app page. i suspect the code will differ.

can’t really comment on whether jamie has use the same library as the other Amazon Echo app which connects to the same servers. he did mention last year that he was. https://community.homey.app/t/app-pro-amazon-alexa/8356/1986?u=loy80y

hopefully jamie can figure it out. i’ve also got a ton of flows set up. im using some govee lights via this app also.

spent a good couple of hours using the Amazon Echo app as a backup if my announcements fail. thats not even all of them. only the critical ones.

We should ask the developer of the Echo app: @staeff

Yep, I know about the differences.

I started smart homing with Alexa.

The day came when I wanted more :joy:

So I discovered homey pro for myself as it is pretty easy to use as I’m not really such a computer nerd

I’m still using Alexa a lot for speech related “flows” and there are a few items I can’t connect to homey like the Aqara fp2 present sensor.

Everything was running great for me….

So I really hope this app will get back to work.:folded_hands:t3:

Thanks for your message!
Actually, the reason I chose the Echo app is quite simple…. I only have one Echo Show device, and after trying the other app first, I noticed it didn’t update the song titles or album covers in real time. This one has always worked perfectly.

same here but after using alexa i bought a smartthings hub and then a homey pro. as much as i love to tinker with things i just dont have the time and patience to set up a smart home with home assistance.

same for me. this was running great so far. i’ve even set up flows to restart and log back onto the app. couldnt really complain as there wasnt any other options at the time.

Its a good idea

i did try the echo app at the time it came out. i was only really testing for stability as at times i forget to log back onto my alexa app even with the notifications. then i wonder why my notifications arent working at home. i didnt notice much of a difference but then again i didnt add all my amazon echo devices to homey via the amazon echo app.

i would love if there was a smart speaker that just runs locally.

It would be great to have a smart speaker that works locally, but at the moment, if we’re looking for something along the lines of Alexa or Google Home, I believe it’s very difficult due to the hardware limitations of these devices

Unfortunately I had a very bad car accident last year.

So I had a lot of time lately to get myself a smarter home. :tada::rofl::clap:t3:

I’m still recovering and not really good on my feet so homey pro and Alexa make it so much easier.

Automatic heating, shades, lights, Automatic door opening and doorbell video on my echo.

I just love it.

The Echo app works, but for me it’s unusable.

The Alexa app is the app i use, just for routines for my stove.

But also on my Homey it disconnects every 5 to 10 minutes.

Im using a Homey Pro early 2023 with version 12.8.2 and Alexa app 6.0.1 (test version from this morning)
