[APP][Pro] Alfen - Optimal Charging, Smarter Homes: Powering Efficiency for You and the Grid

The test version was updated yesterday to add the new energy capabilities but the seamlessly upgrade went wrong. Hope the new version (1.0.10) should fix this

It is working again!1.0.10.
And after a Homey reboot the charger is shown as chargepoint in Homey Energy.
Great work!

Yes working, and indeed in the Energy tab. COOL!!!

Hi All,
I am a new Homey user. I have a Alfen S Line charger. I am able to connect to it using this app. Thanks to MrDutchfighter for creating it! Also thanks to everyone that has commented in this thread. It has already been very insightful.
I’ve got a couple of questions, perhaps others can help me with.

  1. Did you have to install a specific version of the firmware in the charger for everything to work with Homey? Reason I ask is because my supplier/service provider (Coolblue, do not recommend) doesn’t support newer versions of the firmware offered by Alfen, even though the MyEve app keeps telling me my firmware is out of date.
  2. Does changing the charging mode during charging mean you have to reconnect the actual plug or can it switch during charging?
  3. If I want my charger to charge with just solar energy ( I have solar panels at home) is setting the charge mode to green (100%) enough or should I also change the Phase and amp settings? Keeping in mind that I do not care if the charge speed with this setting is extremely slow. I don’t mind if it trickle charges, as long as I am using my Solar energy efficiently
  4. If I want the charger to automatically start charging when there is sufficient solar energy, would I need to already have ’ started’ a charging session, i.e. using my RFID card to activate the charger or is there also a way to do this for which I would not have to be present. Assuming of course the charge cable is plugged in. |

I am grateful for any help

thnx for making this amazing app!
Ive connected my Alfen single pro to my internet yesterday and trying to make a flow in homey to let it automaticly charge with available sunpower and let it stop when it drops.

But all flow works except the ones i need with start and stop charging. when i try in the app to start to charge the EV it gives me a error:

Missing Capability Listener: evcharger_charging

anyone have a solution for this? what am i doing wrong

1- don’t know for sure
2- switch during charging is no problem
3- green mode wil do. You can change the % so it starts charging earlyer. Mine is on 10% so its starts charging as soon as there is 130W going back to the net.
4- i use plug and charge

You can’t start and stop charging. This is either not implemented by Alfen or nobody found the capability yet in the Alfen API. As the API is not publicly documented and all current features are reverse engineered it is not possible to implement this. You can achieve the same by setting max power very low or switch to full sun mode (if you don’t have any solar panels). This often gives not enough power to charge the car, hence, stopping the car from charging.

Thanks for your reply Stijn

  1. We’ll see I guess. I’ve got a mechanic coming over today to fix my firmware as they installed an update by accident which does not work with their own backend…
  2. Great!
  3. Okay, im trying to understand the percentage, what is it a percentage of? Like, what is 100%? Is it a 100% of whatever power the charger is currently asking for? Meaning it’s current Amp setting? Or is it based on something else?
  4. I’ll give plug and charge a go! Seems a lot easier than having to constantly start a season with the RFID card.

If you do 4, and have the charger on a public road, anybody can charge on your system. Just FYI

Yes, thanks for the heads up. I also realized that. Luckily my street is more or less a dead end and the charger is pretty obscured by my hedges.

  1. In my case the minimum of charging is 1300W. I think this is comming from the car. So 100% is 1300W and the 10% i use is 130W. So the car starts charging with 1300W when i return 130W to the grid.

hi, thanks for the reply!, sorry for my late response.
Yes in the eve app im using the sunlight charging option and it automaticly starts charging when there is enough available sunpower. But what i see there the response time is really slow, not sure whats the algo behind it, but many times when i have like 3-4kw left its not charging. Not sure where the problem is, but i thought if i make some good flows i can fasten the response time. i have found the option to put it on due to the mode change to green or comfort mode, but i havent found out how to put the charger off when there isnt enough sun to meet he 1.4kw requirements to start it.

my solar system is only able to provide information every 5 min. which means it is always trailing wrt to charge setting. I have averaged out the solar production on 20-30 min, and used that as a minimum amount that my Alfen should be set at. helps on the cloudy days, on sunny days it obviously does not make much of a difference. Alternatively you could check on the actual amount of power provided back into the net

Using this app quite a while now. It works fine, only the following question: is it correct the charging is not registered in the energy tab? It does show the charger but at the level of largest energy users the Alfen is not mentioned. To solve this I now use Power by the hour to get these insights but it would be great if the charger was mentioned directly

It was always there, but somehow Homey decided that all the devices that are in the top aren’t mentioned anymore in the consumers. Very annoying. If anyone knows how to fix that again then I would be happy to do that. But I think it is up to Homey to solve it properly. All the data that they need is already available…

Hi, I’m having an Alfen Single S line installed soon. Configuration: Alfen Single S line, P1 cable to my smart meter and UTP cable to my router. My employer reimburses my charging costs via Eneco (that’s where my UTP cable is for; have no possiblity for a SIM card). Loadbalancing via P1 cable.

Does anybody know whether it’s possible to have chargingcosts reimbursed via the UTP cable communication and Start/Stop loading of the vehicle via the Alfen App (thus via the UTP cable) on the same time?

Yes, that is possible. You need some provider to do the reimbursement, e.g. e-flux.nl. You can connect the Homey app through local LAN, they need to be on the same subnet. Start/stop though is not fully supported as the commands aren’t publicly available and I haven’t found them in the API yet. But you can kind of achieve the same by setting the A to 1A, some cars then stop charging.

@MrDutchfighter , is it possible to ad in the when cards, power has changed?

Sorry strike that. I need to be in the APSystems app, not Alfen

After a few defaults of the charger, I only used the homey app to see the status of the charger. It keeps functioning. The faults I think are caused by me (homey) sending commands to the charger, and eneco or maybe load balancing is sending commands too. I now see that you also have eneco as provider. How did you fix this? I need to keep it connected to eneco because they send my empoyer a bill for my power. The car is a leasecar.

I have the same situation and no problems at all.
