Hi all, I’m wondering if with Homey I can start using a ‘regular’ HDD as a NAS, or that I better just buy a new NAS to get access to my data from everywhere. Any thoughts?
That all depends on what you already have and what you want to achieve.
You can not connect a HDD to Homey directly (i.e. USB) and make Homey act as a NAS, if that is what you are asking.
Please elaborate.
Yes exactly that was what I was thinking about. If that’s not an option then I just need to go for a NAS solution. If anyone has tips for brands / types that work nicely via Homey: I’m interested!
Very keen with my Synology DS218+ NAS here.
This model also runs Docker, which expands it functionality enormously.

I have QNAP with Docker support running several years with some containers.
And for both (Synology and Qnap) you can find apps. For Qnap only for monitoring and WoL.
