Accessibility and Usability Issues with Mood Implementation

The current implementation of moods is discriminatory toward users with color blindness. While moods are a valuable addition, their usability relies almost entirely on color as the only recognizable attribute. This makes them difficult—or impossible—to use for color-blind users.

At the moment, it appears impossible to change or edit a mood’s color indication after its initial setup. Additionally, cards do not clearly display the mood description or user-defined name; they focus on the originally selected large multicolor icon. For users with color blindness, this is extremely problematic, and even for non–color-blind users, the experience feels incomplete and unclear.

To improve accessibility and usability, the following changes are necessary:

  • Cards should clearly display both parameters: the color/icon and the user-defined mood name. The colored icon and “set mood” could be smaller, the name larger & bright

  • Moods should be 100% editable, including the ability to change the icon color after creation (this option is currently disabled).

  • Mood editing should be available on all platforms, not limited to the mobile app only.

Addressing these issues would significantly improve accessibility, inclusivity, and overall user experience.

As far as I know does the app always display the name of the mood. This is true for the device tab, the widget and even in the flow action card (albeit a bit smaller). So I’m not entirely sure which cards you are referring to, and on which platform.

Yes, more customisations are welcome, for example assigning an icon to a mood (or flow for that matter). I’m not in a position to argue since I’m not colourblind myself but I’m struggling to see this as discriminatory. From what I’ve found the app’s mood occurrences all have a label with the mood name.

I adjusted the text to make it clear that the colored icon and “mood” is the main focus, with the name appearing smaller and dimmed. A suggestion would be to reverse this: make “Set mood” small and dimmed, and display the name larger and brighter.
