Hi everyone!
I’ve been working on a community-developed Dimplex e-MatriX app for Homey Pro, bringing local control of compatible Dimplex electric fireplaces to Homey.
The app supports both LAN and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connections.
The integration is based on the communication protocols used by the official Dimplex e-MatriX application and builds on experience from the Faber ITC Homey integration.
The first test release is now ready, and I’m looking for Dimplex owners who would like to help test and improve compatibility!
What can it do?
Fireplace control
- Turn your fireplace on and off.
- Adjust flame intensity on compatible controllers.
- Read fireplace operating modes and status.
- Automatically detect supported features where the controller provides this information.
Lighting and effects
- Separate Homey device for fireplace lighting.
- Lighting on/off control.
- Native Homey color picker for supported RGB lighting.
- Individual RGB zones, including FireLED where available.
- Lighting intensity adjustments.
- My Mood presets, stored locally in Homey.
- Audio volume control on supported models.
Advanced RGB, mood and audio functions are currently experimental and require explicit activation.
Sensors and diagnostics
- Room temperature and available climate readings.
- Water-level status and warnings.
- Fireplace operating hours and maintenance information.
- Controller firmware information.
- Error and warning information.
- Connection status, response time and reconnection statistics.
- Bluetooth signal information where available.
Supported readings vary depending on the fireplace model, controller and firmware.
Homey Insights and Flows
- Available sensor values can be monitored using Homey Insights.
- Automate fireplace power and supported lighting controls.
- Use available device states and measurements in Homey Flows.
- Connection loss and recovery triggers.
- My Mood and lighting automation on compatible controllers.
Adding a fireplace
The app provides just two connection options:
LAN
Select e-MatriX (LAN) in Homey. The app automatically searches for compatible controllers on your local network.
Your Homey Pro and Dimplex controller must be connected to the same local network.
Bluetooth (BLE)
Select e-MatriX (Bluetooth) and follow the pairing instructions.
The fireplace controller must be placed into Bluetooth pairing mode before starting discovery. Please consult your fireplace manual for the exact procedure.
Keep your Homey Pro within Bluetooth range and make sure the controller is not already connected to another application.
Automatic lighting detection
When supported lighting hardware can be positively identified, the fireplace and its lighting are offered as separate Homey devices within the same pairing process.
Bluetooth supports more detailed accessory detection. LAN lighting detection is more limited and may not identify lighting that is currently switched off.
What is not fully supported yet?
- Full RGB color and effect control over LAN.
- Direct modification of the fireplace’s internal thermostat setpoint.
- Permanent My Mood storage inside the fireplace controller. Homey presets are stored locally instead.
- Guaranteed compatibility with every e-MatriX model and firmware version.
- All advanced BLE lighting and audio commands, which still require real-world verification.
Some functionality is only available when the corresponding hardware is detected.
Current status – v0.1.23
This is an early community test release.
The app has undergone automated tests for its communication protocols, device pairing, Homey Flows, capabilities and translations.
However, testing across different physical e-MatriX models is still needed, and official Homey App Store publication validation has not yet been completed.
Looking for testers!
If you own a Dimplex e-MatriX fireplace, I’d love to hear your experience.
Feedback from different models will help improve automatic feature detection, connection stability and support for additional fireplace functions.
Thanks in advance to everyone willing to help test and improve the integration! ![]()
