Yale Integration in Australia

For the people Down Under :australia:

I recently purchased several Yale products expecting them to integrate with Homey, based on what was advertised at the time. The products I purchased are:

  • Unity Entrance Lock
  • Unity Screen Door Lock
  • Yale Connect Plus Hub 2
  • Keypad

On the Homey App Store, there are two official Yale apps listed (Yale Access for US/Canada and Yale Home for other regions). The Yale Home app was previously shown as supporting broader regions, which can still be seen via web archive.

After encountering issues adding my devices to Homey via the Yale Home app, I contacted the app support team. After a bit of back and forth, their response was:

Unfortunately, the products sold in Oceania are build by a different team compared to the EMEA region, which results in the bridges not being available in the API the Homey app uses. This has been brought up before with Yale, but unfortunately this hasn’t yet led to any adjustments on their side. This also means that unfortunately this app will not work for your situation; we will make sure to clarify the app description to include that only users in the EMEA region can use this app.

Not sure why Yale hates us, while the rest of the world can enjoy the integrations. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Did you find any workarounds?

I’ll bring this up with Yale as well, as the situation is a bit confusing.

While Yale is a global brand, it’s actually operated by different companies depending on the region. In EMEA, Yale is part of Assa Abloy. However, in North America (US & Canada), the residential smart lock business (including Yale and August) is now part of Fortune Brands Innovations, following ASSA ABLOY’s divestment in 2023.

To make things a bit more complex, the platforms are still closely related. Since these products originally came from the same organization, there is still overlap in APIs and underlying infrastructure across regions.

I’ll check with the ASSA ABLOY team to see what we can do for users in Oceania as well.
