Hi there, I’d like to know what the experience with Homey is like. I’ve been stuck with Home Assistant for years, and I feel like I want to migrate to Homey because of the 40 integrations it offers. Did someone else make this change as well, and are there any bottlenecks?
Hello!
I very recently started my Homey journey. I still have HA though. The aim is to give up HA and migrate completely to Homey
I host both of them on my own hardware, Homey SHS and HA core in proxmox (either LXC or dockerised)
My home is energy centric. I have EV, batteries and solar. So my aim for Homey is to set up automation and gather cost/metrics for that system
The rest of it is a nice to have, ie automated lighting, temp/humid/various sensors etc. etc.
Both HA and HOMEY have their pros and cons. All of my smart devices are supported in both HA and Homey. This was the first thing to check when I was looking at Homey - are all my devices supported, or will I need to put something together myself?
I am able to achieve the energy requirements above, as well as automated lighting and other things.
I have yet to make any good usable dashboards, but that is definitely doable also. I plan to have a ‘smart’ picture frame type thing that displays these things that my family can use for things like shopping lists, daily weather outlook, todays events via calendar, trash collection reminders - the possibilities are endless
The biggest change for me was the ease of automation. No more yaml, just easy, drag and drop, point and click advanced automation flows
My advice, if you can, host homey SHS on a device like a raspberry pi and use the 30 day trial and see what you can do with it. Then if happy with is, you can look into whether you want to buy a physical homey device or continue hosting your own with a lifetime/monthly subscription like I have

What do you mean by this? HA offers way more support for all kinds of devices out there.
Wow thank you so much for the full clarification I really appreciate it! I will do that and I do have a rpi 5 extra here so I will give a shot for sure starting later the incoming week or weeks.
Much love!
Well, my apps Homewizard Link, Zyxel Nebula, iTAG, Asustor, Duux Gen2, Chipolo, Olisto and ThirdReality Hub are Homey Exclusives! So I think it just depends on which devices you use.
Hi, I have been using Home assistant for about 5 years and really enjoyed learning it and setting things up, it really is amazing but I was constantly getting zigbee devices going offline.
About two weeks ago I purchased a Homey Pro Mini and it really is amazing in one week i’ve added all my zigbee devices and set up the automations and also setup a dashboard on my Samsung tablet and to be honest it looks so much better than the one I had setup on HA.
At first I hated having to do the dashboards via an app as I love working from the pc (and would like them to add this feature) but to be honest once you get used to it its great, I just added stuff on my phone and when I saved it it appeared on the tablet so I could see how it looked and adjust as necessary.
Another thing is I never got alexa to work on home assistant on Homey I added the skill and it works really well and very fast! Also My nest thermostat took me about 6 months to setup on home about 5 min!
The only negatives I have with it is I have had to replace 2 zigbee light switches which decided to turn on and off at will! and I have 5 temperature sensors that will not pair. To be fair these were all cheap from aliexpress and i’ve had trouble in the past with them on home assistant. Also i had a dashboard on a fire 8 HD tablet that is using to much power with Fully kiosk Browser but I think thats Amazon OS so I’ve ordered another Samsung tablet.
Im very happy with it Ive a few things I want to setup still but nothing I really need.
People think it’s expensive but with the mini considering Alexa works so well I think it’s cheap.
Hope this helps!
