Can someone give me a push in the right direction according to get a decent trigger for defrosting my windshield?
I’m using the app buienradar on my iOS device it has the function to give me a notification when the windshield is frozen. It’s under notifications called krabmelding.
What I try to accomplish is that when my windshield has a high chance of being frozen, start pre heating my car.
Instead of reading the notification and start preheat manually from my car app.
How accurate has the app been in predicting that your windshield has frozen over?
I assume that you live in NL, and that the temperature not that ofen falls below 0 (?). I would just go for a easy solution using dew point using your own outside temeprature device…
But probably many things to concider, air moisture, clear sky etc…
Yes I’m in NL. And the buienradar notifications are spot on. Saved me many times in the morning. This season again. So my thought where why invent the wheel when someone invented it perfectly. And I have been looking for my own calculations with many tries. But they arrntbas accurate as buienradar. I also stumbled on a website called krabalarm.nl. They seemed to do the samething. But also there indient know how to implement there data into homey.
And as you said how often will this happen? I know. But the question stays open
O yes I’m still very interested.
All I really want is to know when my windows are likely frozen. So I can let my car set to climatise on the days I have to get to work. But I need the trigger. And even very simple frost yes or no.
So any help still welcome.
And as I investigated last time your website just does that.
Great to hear you’re interested! I’m planning to create a simple API focused on webhooks. This would send a notification whenever there’s a 50% or higher chance that you’ll need to scrape your windshield. That way, you can easily integrate it with Homey, Home Assistant, or other automation systems.
When I start working on the development, I’d love to let people test it for free initially. Eventually, it will likely move to a subscription model, as I’m losing ad revenue and there’s some work involved in maintaining it. The cost would be around 1 cent per webhook call.
If you’re interested in testing or providing feedback, let me know! Maybe you can send me a PM, I’m new to this platform and I don’t know how to do that. I really appreciate seeing interest in this feature.
I’m interested. And testing is no problem. Hope the weather stays on like this. As needed for the testing hahaha. But the way you are thinking about subscriptions are holding me back. As most user are die hard tweakers. I think it will be hard to go with subscriptions. But that’s your side if the story to write. Just let me know what next step you want to take. Feedback is no problem
No. Sorry. Made my own calculations but not very perfect. After that the BMW app suffered problems so we can not send actions to the car anymore. So this was for me case closed.
