i resolved, thanks ![]()
Cool!
Now we (or I) like to know what the problem + the fix was, for other users running into similar issues.
Thx.
How do you update Homey?
It’s on the VMware Workstation thing.
Read the fine manual ![]()
https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/search?utf8=✓&query=self+hosted
I found it alr:
Using VMWare 25H2 on Windows 11 and Network = Bridged mode worked out of the box for me.
A couple of points to consider:
- Ensure that your PC Power plan is set to Never go to sleep or power off.
- If you are Remote Desktop-ing in to your PC, then don’t sign out becuase VMWare will shutdowm.
- VMWare may or may not decide to suspend your VM, you can prevent this: Disable Auto Suspend of VM on VMWare Workstation/Player | Windows OS Hub
- There is an option to AutoStart your VM, this article explains how: How to Autostart VMware Workstation VMs – Virtualization Review
I prefer Hyper-V (except that it doesn’t support USB sticks!) for autorun at boot; I might try out Virtual Box to see if it is better suited to a lights-out, no display/kbd Win 11 PC.
For now I remote in to the NUC, log in, start the VM and then close the Remote Desktop session. That leaves everything running. And No, I am not interested in using Linux on the NUC, I have spent too many years on Unix and Linux to do that again ![]()
I am running on an older Intel Nuc, with only 4gb of memory, which didn’t support HA well at all, Homey is considerably less memory hungry.
I’ve installed SHS on a W11 PC. From an iPad I can access the SHS via the app, add device, run flows.
I can not access the same SHS from an android device. Tried via an S24 and Tab S9.
Also tried installing SHS on a different PC, now running W10… but same issue.
Any ideas?
have you tried using a browser to get to Homey from the Android?
I just recently installed Homey App (version 9.6.7) on a Tab A7, A9 and A56 (phone). Running Homey on a Win 11 PC in VMWare 25H2. Network set to Bridged.
After installing the app on those devices, I logged into my Homey account and things connected.
Not sure if it matters to connect the app but is BlueTooth on on your Androids?
Does anyone know how to make a backup in Homey SHS? I’m running it in Oracle VirtualBox. This is how it’s explained on How to install Homey Self-Hosted Server on Windows – Homey Support;
To create a backup, copy the files & folders in /root/.homey-shs inside the VM to a safe location. You might need to install an SSH server, or another file transfer program, to access these files from Windows. Alternatively, you could mount a USB disk inside the VM and copy the files to that filesystem.
To restore a backup, put them back before starting Homey Self-Hosted Server.
But where can I find /root/.homey-shs?
cd /root
(= Change directory to /root)
ls
(= list contents)
Thanks! Where can I do that? I can’t find it.
Thank Peter, never thought of pressing return on the manager output window in the VM ![]()
Just to add some clarification for Ralph in case he is not linux person:
Go to the VM screen where Homeymanager is outputting it’s log.
Press return, then cd /root
ls -a will show the files (-a to see ‘hidden files)
On VM configure, you should add a Shared folder, follow the Virtual box or VMWare instructions to do so. After that you can just access the files in the .homey-shs directory from Windwos.
Got it, thanks! Now I have to find out about that Shared Folder or how I can copy the map to a USB Stick.
UPDATE: I managed to make a shared folder. But it doesn’t show up on my network. I found I have to do something with Guest Additions, but I can’t install it from within VB.
Hi Gerrit, thanks for the tips. Tried with BT on and BT off. No change.
Quickly tested SHS on a RaspBerry Pi 5 that was laying around. Now SHS works on all mobile devices.
Given up on SHS on W11.
Strange, but now you have something running so can move on.
I have the same question
Thx
