Homey Energy | Megathread

How do I get an advanced virtual device to show up as a consumer in the new Energy section?

The virtual device shows the energy consumption properly on the tile in the “Devices” section of Homey, so the device and the power consumption indication works properly.

The device is created as a Numberfield in the Device Capabilities app and the device settings in the repair function are:
Show as: Power (Sensor)
Create real field and flowcards: Checked
Cumulative: Checked
Create Tag: Checked
Create Insights: Checked

In the advanced settings of the device the settings are as described below.
“Tracks total home energy consumption” is set to “No”.
“Exclude from energy” is set to “No”.

Thank you for your reply. Prior to my question I found and read the same post, but I could not really identify what to change to get things working?

Well, it’s unclear to me as well, that’s what I"ve tried to show by these posts.
What I’ve read is: a bitbucket ticket should’ve been created, but I can’t find a related one here.
Also to me it’s not sure if Arie’s suggestion from the second link is the fix.
(Pro 2019 here, so I can’t run tests myself with the Energy implementation)

To save me reading 500+ posts.

Will this work in the UK or is it only mainland Europe?

It appears not as our smart meters don’t seem to have a RJ12 port.

Got a problem getting the dongle to read any data for me. It popped up nicely in Homey upon install but claims it cannot read data from my smart meter. I have a Kamstrup Omnipower board with a P1 han module and the port has been activated by the power company. What can I do to check further?

Hello Tordan,

Please read this on what to do next:

in Sweden, your energy provider might encrypt the smart meter’s data. Therefore, Homey needs a decryption key to access the data during the Homey Energy Dongle’s setup.
You can request the decryption key from your energy provider. The process varies by provider, but you will generally need to email them your address and smart meter serial number.

And

In the unlikely event your specific P1 smart meter turns out to be incompatible, we will work to add support for it within two weeks or else provide you with a full refund.

Sorry, if this has already been answered 1000 times, BUT has anyone managed to get a EV/car on the Energy-tab with Tesla Charger Gen 1 by example - I do think Gen 3 will automatically show.

I do not have a Gen3 version, and looking for a way for get my Gen1 visible on the energy-tab.
Maybe one did manage with a smart-meter/Shelly meter, please share

The charger device must have device class ev-charger. If that’s not the case, the app must be updated to change the device class for existing devices.

Thx Peter,
Upon checking the activation with them they claimed no further authorisation would be needed but I will double check once again on monday. They however say if there is a communication problem I should unscrew all three main fuses but I dont want to do that right now considering the amount of gadgets in operation as well as the outdoor temp of -10 If anything works I will update the thread.

:face_with_peeking_eye: that’s quite thourough for only resetting a comm device.

Does anyone know if a Shelly EM Gen 3 meter can be used within Homey Pro?

Also do we know when more people can get on the beta?

Thanks

Mmmh, seems OK to me. I usually walk down the street to where the electrical cabinet for the whole neighborhood stands and pull the lever there :joy:

 :ok_hand: why not

Sorry for the late reply Dirk.
But yeah I have tried all that. Both live and cumulative values available. Was working totally fine until the one update. Still not working yet. Tried contacting the support never got a reply. I understand it’s Beta but Frient is one of the most common measuring devices in Europe I think.
Anyway, hope it will be fixed

Edit: unfortunately over the past 1.5 years Homey has been a constant burden and pain in the ***, there are constantly issues and nothing is every reliably working. It doesn’t save any time and i can’t at all rely on it. Support is rarely answering to anything so I kinda gave up on it tbh. I was excited about the energy feature and activated it and it was working well but again, suddenly stopped working. It’s just a waste to keep pouring time into this mess. I’m happy y’all having different experiences. around 25% of my flows are somewhat working as intended and I leave it at that.

Hi

Question about measuring power.

I have a solaredge inverter and i only get readings every 15 minutes from that and it report the measured power as a positive value, as if it was a load.

So I have added a Shelly 3EM powermeter so I can get realtime values, but I have a question.

Should I connect it so it report the measured production value as a negative power, or should I connect it so it report the production value as a postive.

When there is no pruduction there is a small load of 5 w

anyone have any good suggestion?

/Rikard

No problem!

Have you even contacted Frient support?
For firmware v12.3.0 and higher, some app developers had to update their apps. And according to the changelog, Frient has also changed something regarding energy in the last 2-3 months. The last update is just a week ago. Even if it doesn’t actually address the problem you described.

@DirkG

First of all I appreciate the answers and taking the time in helping me with this issue. Thank you very much for that

They added the functionality back in December when it was announced. It was the reason I bought the device in the first place because the frient support told me it works with the new energy functionality.
The only change was last week a bug fix from what I can see.
Mine suddenly stopped working end January and the only one doing updates was Athom. I have sent them multiple emails and never got a response. They say to post here in this forum because „they check it thoroughly during Beta“.

But at this point it’s kind of useless anyway, because I wanted to properly track my consumption over the year which is not longer possible as everything since end of January is gonna be missing anyway. So yeah, typical Homey story again I guess.

Hello Flyto,

I just wonder a bit about this “complaint” or “conclusion” if you will:
you seem to be aware you are testing a beta product, or is this a surprise to you?

Beta as in: things do go wrong, things stop working, Homey might stop working, work might go down the drain;
IMHO updates should be carefully tested on a 2nd Homey, certainly not by auto-updating?

Athom support doesn’t offer help on beta / experimental software, this is not something new

In this case you can use this topic topic or Slack, to share your findings with the development team.

Thanks.

N.B. I’m not trying to “defend” Athom in any way, I just think it’s not fair to post conclusions like that about beta products.

Thanks to Atom for this amazing work - I really love the new energy tab.

I am using Meross plugs to track the energy collected by my solar panels. But I am missing the graph line in the solar graph - anyway if I just tab on the graph to any time solar power was collected, I can see the corresponding value of it. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
