[APP][Pro] Widgetkeeper - dashboards in your browser + custom widgets

That screenshot looks very much like a Homey device card setting, and may be specific to the brand/model of device

That’s correct. It’s a device setting of a Sonoff device. Because it was registered as a motion sensor and not as a camera, it wouldn’t pop up in the list of cameras.

Indeed… the ability to have one media widget, that you can select live on widget which speaker you control is a game changer!!!

Would it be possible to also have a larger version of this widget too (not a complaint, just asking out of curiosity)

Yeah - for sure. But what part would you want bigger? The album art or something else?

The other option I can think of is that your camera doesn’t support snapshots?

The game changer for me is a smart stack of media widgets, one for every Sonos speaker in my house. As soon as a speaker becomes active, the smart stack automatically switches to this speaker in the dashboard.

Personally, I would like to see a version with the album artwork full width, with all the controls and text below, and the text in a bigger font, if possible also full width of the widget… some of us aren’t getting any younger  my eyes aren’t quite hawk like as they used to be (sh*t I never thought my age would end up starting with a 5 :rofl::rofl:)

Indeed… and I am using Music Assistant server to dish up all my music (though Yamaha MusicCast speakers rather than Sonos) and one of the really cool features with MA is the ability to seamlessly transfer a playing queue from one speaker to another… combined with a Smart Stack and some clever advanced flows, the music can follow me around the house… it’s incredible

Sure - I’ll add that.

You, good sir  are a legend! Thank you

Mmh - would it make sense to add this directly to the media widget (as an option)? Instead of having to create a stack for it.

I think the appeal and flexibility of the Smart Stack, is that you can customise the switching exactly as you prefer in a flow… how would you add that to the widget and it still be as customisable on the switch with flow logic? (Just my thoughts :thought_balloon: feel free to tell me to shut up ha ha )

Mm, don’t know. It’s already a really elegant solution. I can swipe to the speaker I want to control and when someone else controls a speaker (using the Sonos app for example) the dashboard automatically switches to that one.

Ok, I’ll strike that from my list then

Like a child in the candy store, I do have a request  Is it possible to temporary launch a modal window on top of the dashboard?

The use case: when someone rings my doorbell, I would like to see the camera snapshot full screen on my dashboard for a couple of seconds.

I know that native widgets can do it, but I don’t know if 3d party widgets can do this.

I really want that as well - but the API only supports this like Homey.popup(url: string): Promise<void> that opens a browser view. That’s honestly not very pretty and would feel out of place. So for now I’m hesitant about using it.

(on web dashboards it could be made to look great though)

I’ve looked into it and don’t think it’s something that straight forward to add. Homey has a standard capability for locking and unlocking (locked), but none for pulling the latch, so every lock app does it its own way. One Nuki app uses its own “Open” slider, Loqed has a lock state with an “Open” option, and the official Nuki app only offers it as a Flow card (“Unlock and pull the latch”). A widget would have to know each of those apps separately and would still miss many locks. Since it physically opens your door, I don’t want to guess at it.

Simply to make the dashboard look more interesting. The current dashboards look dull - both with the standard widgets and with yours. (I have seen Home Assistant ones which look much more exciting). It could also be useful to use some sort of colour coding (e.g. Lights are red blocks, Device value are green, Flows are blue etc)

@ChrisG @SunBeech @Drako74: I’ve been thinking about how to do naming of tiles properly for 1.0.0.

Homey’s widget settings can’t list the devices you picked, so a “device = name” list there means typing device names exactly. I’d rather you name the tiles where you see them:

  1. Pick your devices with Homey’s normal device picker, as now.
  2. In the widget’s settings, turn on Rename tiles.
  3. Each tile now shows a text field with its current name. Type the name you want, or leave it empty to keep the device’s (or room’s) name.
  4. Turn Rename tiles off again.

Mockup:

  • The names belong to that widget. If you rename or reorder devices, the names stay with the right tiles. Your other screens, and a Smart Stack showing the widget, get the same names.
  • Grouped lights get a name per group tile too. Two widgets with a “Living room” group each can be called “Sofa lights” and “Living room”.
  • It’s meant for every widget with device tiles: Light Controls, Curtains, Quick Actions, Sensor Alarms, Device Values, Sparklines, Locks and Doors, and Cameras. The existing “Tile names” text in Sensor Alarms keeps working.
  • Possibly also an option to leave the room out of names, so “Living room Ceiling lamp” in the room Living room shows as “Ceiling lamp” with no typing at all.

One thing this doesn’t change: a widget still makes one tile per room when grouping. @Drako74, three groups in the living room still means three widgets for now. That’s a separate question about how groups are made, and I’ll come back to it.

What do you think - would this work?
