Hi all,
We have eight Rointe radiators and towel rails, and until now they reached Homey the long way round: a Home Assistant integration, bridged into Homey, with the Group app on top to heat several rooms at once. It worked, but changes took up to 15 seconds to show, Homey offered a “cool” mode the radiators don’t have, and heating depended on Home Assistant staying up. So I built a Homey app that talks to Rointe’s cloud directly.
It works with accounts on Rointe’s Nexa platform: the ones you use with the Rointe Nexa app.
Live, not polled
The app keeps a live connection to Rointe’s cloud, so a change made on the radiator itself or in the Rointe app shows up in Homey within a second or two, and a change from Homey reaches the radiator just as fast.
What each radiator gets
- Room temperature and target temperature (7–30° in half degrees). Setting a target switches the radiator to heat at that temperature, as the Rointe app does.
- Heat, Schedule or Off. Schedule follows the radiator’s own Comfort/Eco timetable, and the target shown follows it through the day.
- Comfort, Eco and Frost presets, using the temperatures saved on each radiator.
- Heating: whether it’s warming the room right now, logged in Insights.
- Shows as offline in Homey if a radiator loses its connection.
- Flow cards from Homey’s standard thermostat set: set the temperature or the mode, the mode is or isn’t, the target or room temperature changed or passed a value, and started or stopped heating.
Two dashboard widgets
- Heating dial: pick the radiators the widget controls, tap the ones you want (or none for all), turn the dial and press Heat. Off switches them off. Each radiator chip shows its temperature, or its target while heating.
- Heating groups: named groups like “Lounge/Dining” or “Bedroom/Shower Room”. Tap a group, turn the dial, press Heat. Each row shows whether the group is heating, partly on or off, with its temperature. Tap Edit groups to add, rename or delete groups and pick the radiators in each. Groups are shared, so the same ones appear on your phone and your tablet.
Apple Home and Siri
The radiators work with HomeKitty, so you can bring them into Apple Home from Homey. Each one appears as a thermostat with Off, Heat and Auto (Auto follows the radiator’s own schedule), with no cooling options, and shows Heating while it’s actually warming the room and Idle once it’s reached temperature. That means Siri, Apple Home scenes and automations, and Control Centre all work, without Home Assistant in between.
If you already use the Group app for your radiators, Heating groups copies those groups across the first time it opens, matched by radiator name. After that you can remove the Group app if nothing else uses it.
Getting started
- Add a device, choose Rointe, and sign in with your Rointe Nexa email and password. Your password is only used to find your radiators and isn’t stored.
- Pick the radiators and towel rails to add.
- Add the Heating dial or Heating groups widget to a dashboard.
- For Apple Home, add the radiators in HomeKitty.
Not included (yet)
- The radiator switches: window detection, presence detection, silence mode, do not disturb, frost protection and the local/remote locks.
- Changing the Comfort, Eco and Frost temperatures from Homey (use the Rointe app for now).
- Power and energy readings, and Flow cards for presets and the switches.
- Older accounts on the Rointe Connect platform. If you’re still on Rointe Connect and would like this, please say so.
Tested on eight devices on one Nexa account: a mix of older and newer Rointe radiators and two towel rails. Other Nexa radiators should work the same way, but I’d love to hear from you whether yours does or not. If something isn’t right, please post which radiator you have and what happened.
Test version: Rointe | Homey
This is a community app and isn’t made or supported by Rointe. It uses Rointe’s cloud the same way the Rointe app does, so if Rointe change their service, it may stop working until it’s updated.
Thanks to JYewman, whose Home Assistant integration for Rointe made this possible.
