Now you don’t need this app anymore and can you can control your display directly from Homey!
Short description
Control your iPixel LED matrix directly from Homey — send messages, notifications, and simple apps over Bluetooth. Fast, reliable, and built for low-power LED controllers.
Overview
iPixe lLED turns a supported Bluetooth LED matrix into a Homey-controlled display. Use Homey flows or action cards to send transient notifications, save short text “apps” to display slots, force-clear screens, or display a persistent (sticky) message that hides the clock until you clear it manually. The app focuses on a robust BLE-only workflow: on/off, dimming and deterministic text rendering with reliable retry/queueing for flaky connections.
Key features
Send notifications and advanced messages (color, animation, speed, font & offsets).
Sticky notifications: clear current apps, optionally hide the clock, and keep a persistent message until manually cleared.
Save text apps to numbered display slots and restore them from the device store.
Automatic retrying: failed writes are enqueued and retried automatically so updates don’t get lost.
Clock display: the app can render HH:MM every minute into a dedicated slot.
Brightness persistence: dim level stored and restored on startup.
BLE-first: connects directly over Bluetooth with a cached-preferred-advertisement strategy to reduce rediscovery time.
Localized flow cards (multi-language support) for easy integration in Homey flows.
I’m heavily inspired by the Ulanzi clock device.
We got 10 app slots. 8 which are persistent to update/show text information.
One is reserved for quick notifications which can be automatically cleared after 30 seconds.
And one for a clock, since I really hate all the default clock faces it by default offers.
Besides notifications I also added sticky notifications, which simply mean that the notification will stay on screen until its cleared with the clear notification card.
This can be used for important reminders for e.g. Vacuum the house and won’t be cleared until your robot vacuum cleans the house.
Please note that it uses BLE so the range is limited. It might not pickup your devices if its more than 5 meters away or walls are blocking the signal.
I have the smaller display (13x13 cm) also from the Action. Your app finds the device and can turn it on and off, but of course displaying text and so does not function properly. Do you share the code for your module somewhere on github? Otherwise I can take a look if I can manage to make this work for the smaller panel also.
You want the variables in a text to be a different color?
This device works with binary commands and as far as I can tell the text can either be only one color or use the rainbow effect.
Font setting is not available yet and I don’t think that will be a feature unless its highly requested.
Color of clock / no clock is currently being worked on.
@Talder updated to V2.0 which hopefully supports your square screen! To be safe you should delete the device first and readd. Let me know it works or doesnt work.
In general its better to readd the device to properly use V2.0
Unfortunately the device cannot be found anymore after the upgrade to 2.0 version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, rebooted homey, but the led panel is not found anymore. To be sure the device is still ok, I tried to connect it to my phone and this still works. If there is anything I can help to debug this, let me know.
I published a small update 2.0.1 to remove an optimization that might block your device from being connected. Can you check if you have 2.0.1 and see if you can add the device now?
I have same issue,Homey cannot find the device at all, is only a few cm from homey aways, the app on the phone works fine and connects immidiatly when I open the app.
showing seconds would require the device to be updated every second, so while yes it is possible you won’t see any other apps since the device would receive an update every second. The device is ‘dumb’ meaning it only has its default clock faces which none of them show seconds.
And I’m unsure with what you mean with an image animation. Cause the clock currently is not animated.
Thank you very much for your answer.
I thought it should only show the time with seconds without the hourglass animation on the left.
Just the classic time HH:MM:SS
Thank you
