I am new with Homey and an existing HomeAssistant user. Have 2 Sessy batteries and would like to work with XOM function of PbtH. In HomeAssistant I am also working with XOM and built 2 XOM automations : one with charging only and the other with both charge+discharge. I want to avoid that during cheap hours the batteries will discharge, charging from solar however is fine. How can I build a similar functionallity in Homey? Any help is appreciated!
And FYI: a completely new upgrade of PbtH will come as beta release soon. This will make PbtH act as an advanced Energy Management System. Smart Battery Control will be built in using a Linear Programming optimizer that will do what @Arnold79 wants to do ‘out of the box’ (without the need to build flows).
Spoiler alert:
Nice cliffhanger @Gruijter!
Very nice app and appreciate all time and effort you put in it!! For me PbtH is the primary reason to migrate from HA to Homey.
I am curious with what delta in price you will calculate still this year vs 2027 ; I am currently calculating with a min delta of EUR 0,10 per kWh to use the battery. After 1-1-2027 with the end of “salderen” in NL the tax + supplier costs are already > EUR 0,10 per kWh. So basically I think I want to capture all solar ; in summer only on cheaper hours as my solar production in summer exceeds my battery capacity.
Hi @Gruijter ,
Since 2 days I see a weird (to me
) behaviour in the ‘thuisbatterij monitor’. The ‘Geld deze dag’ seems to drop drastically, multiple times a day. See screenshot:
I have no clue where to look/change settings. Can you explain this behaviour? Using app version 8.21.1 and homey pro 2023 13.5.3.
@Gruijter Hello Robin,
in addition to my post 2 days ago I managed to do some extra investigation.
As you can see ther is a drop in ‘Geld deze dag’ around 2:15 this night while there was no activity in ‘Laden Totaal’ and ‘Ontladen Totaal’. Same for just after 9:00 en just before 10:00 this morning
Do you have any idea what causes this issue? Is it a bug or a misconfiguration on my side?
@Walter_vande_kerkhof Money is calculated as (change in discharged − charged kWh) × the active tariff, so a drop without visible charging means either the tariff or the Anker meters briefly had an odd value. Could be a fluke in the Anker source device or app.
I’m working hard on a completely redesigned V9 of PbtH. I will add an extra guard there for weird source meter jumps.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
EVERYBODY THAT IS USING THE TEST APP UPDATES
The V9 is expected to come out soon as test. This will contain many big changes and will likely contain some breaking bugs. If you do not want V9 to be installed on your Homey while it is still in test phase, you need to go to the stable version update stream now. You can do that by re-installing the stable version (8.21.1) from the app store:
You will not lose any information, flows or settings by installing the stable version over the previous test version.
I have the normal version install again and I have a question.
I see in the PbtH app 0.3664 euro and in my Tibber app I see 0.3670 euro
I give import variabele opslag (%): 21
I give import vaste opslag per kWh: 0,1356
and I give Export vaste opslag per kWh: -0,0248
Why is there a difference and do I something wrong?
Power by the Hour v9: test version available
v9 turns Power by the Hour into your own Energy Management System on Homey: it measures, predicts, plans and controls.
This is a huge rewrite of the app. Expect bugs! In return you get:
- Much simpler setup and configuration.
- Far fewer flow cards, that still do all you need and more.
Make a Homey backup first. After migration there is no way back to v8.
Install the test version: https://homey.app/a/com.gruijter.powerhour/test/ Your v8 devices, totals, Insights and flows are kept.
What’s new
Energy Price: one new price device for power, gas and water. Almost any contract in the EU and worldwide: dynamic or fixed, with all markups and taxes, any currency. Guide
Smart Battery: fully automatic, built-in modes and control. Plans on prices, solar and home load, and learns its own losses. Guide
Smart EV Charger: learns when you leave, charges cheap or on solar, ready on time. Guide
Grid Monitor: peak shaving for capacity tariffs, main fuse and per-phase guard, self-learning home load forecast. Guide
Solar: self-learning forecast, no panel data needed. Guide
Appliances: learns programs, plans the cheapest start. Guide
Setup from your phone: a wizard at pairing, and Repair to change source, price, budget or totals later.
Year budget: spread over the year by your local climate.
After installing: what to do
Prices
- Add an Energy Price device and use Take over settings to copy your old
dap,dap15ordapgdevice. How - The new device takes over the tariff group.
- Move your price flows to the new cards (the timeline lists the old ones), then delete the old price device.
Meters (grid, solar, power, gas, water)
- Price and tariff settings are now in Repair, not in the device settings.
- Grid: check phases, main fuse and capacity tariff in Repair.
Battery
- Choose how the battery is controlled: Control
- Built-in: tick Let the app control the battery and pick a mode. Then remove your own (dis)charge flows, or they will fight the app.
- By flows: leave control off and use New planned battery power or New XOM power available.
- The old ROI cards still work but are deprecated: replace them with the new plan cards.
- Several batteries? They now plan as one group.
- Older Homey (Pro 2019 or Early 2023)? Leave Extra precise planning off: it uses much more memory.
Flows
- Old cards show as deprecated. They still work, but move to the new cards when you can.
- App developers: use
GET /pricesand the realtime eventprices-updated. The v8 names/dap-pricesanddap-prices-updatedare gone. API
Problems? Send a diagnostic report (Homey app → Power by the Hour → Settings) and post the time and what went wrong here, or on GitHub.
Hi Robin,
Is the huisvermogen graph gone?
@Gruijter Thanks for your work.
I do not use all the possibility 's of the app.
But in the version 8.21.1 is a small typo.
The status indicator Energie shows kkWh.
Hi @Gruijter
I’m a bit confused—apologies for asking—but I’ve switched to the new version and am trying to set up a new ‘energy’ button there.
I can’t seem to get it to look the way it did before. To put it another way, the final display doesn’t match the data on the jeroen.nl website at all.
The market price is correct, but the export price in PbtH is showing as 0.2402, whereas it should be 0.376 (this was at 10:15 AM). The import price in PbtH is 0.4006, while jeroen.nl shows 0.394 (these two are fairly close). Tibber account.
What did I enter incorrectly? Could you please help me out? Thanks!
Or, since I’m starting completely from scratch anyway, would it be better to get rid of everything, start with the test version, and not carry anything over from the old PbtH—then enter everything in properly?
If you want to start with a fully clean slate, yes that would be preferred.
Concerning what numbers to use for Tibber I cannot help you. It depends what your contract states exactly. And even then, most energy contracts are ambiguous in how to interpret the different markups. I would not compare it to jeroen.nl myself. Why don’t you compare it with what your Tibber app gives you?
Tip: try uploading your contract and the PbtH setup screenshots to an AI. That should be able to find the right numbers for you!
EdNL,
Tibber changed its tariffs for new contracts starting September 1st. The number on Jeroen. nl are the tariffes for new contracts. I accidently found out yesterday ![]()
for existing/old contracts the correct markups in PBTH are for import € 0,1356, for export € 0.1108 (= 0.1356-0,0248 = the energytax).
for new contracts i expect t(didn’t test it!) that the correct markup should be € 0,1288 for import, for export € 0.1108 .
regards,
Paul
Oke, thank you! @Paul_Scholte
Perhaps a strange question, but could you help me with my query in this thread?
I have entered the information, but I am not sure if it is correct or if I have provided the right details—especially since PbtH now has a brand-new version (9).
Hi Robin,
Great new functionality! I’ve just added a new Energy Price device and now in the process of rewriting my flows. Is there an option to rerun/trigger the function that checks the flows:
Also are all cards that were available on the old Day-Ahead 60 E Prices device available on the new Energy Price device? (I’m having a hard time finding some cards
)
![]()
Nope, sorry
No, many cards were removed to make it a lot easier. You should be able to rebuild the same / similar functionality with the new cards though. After struggling for a while, and you still miss something, let me know what you miss.
I have version 9 and have also set up new devices for ANWB Energy and Gas. Where can I enter the fixed daily gas purchase cost for these new devices? It is possible to do so for electricity, but I can’t find where to enter it for gas.
