You can find out in the app store:
Use the search bar, by entering homematic
If it returns an app, open that app page and search for the device.
No, neither the Homematic AP nor the HmIP-DRSI4 4-gang DIN rail switching actuator are currently compatible with a Homey Pro.
Thx for the fast reply. Are there plans to implement those? That would be my reason to switch actually.
Or is this not possible at all because of some reason?
No one can answer that.
The app developer of the current Homey Homematic app is not active. But Athom is in contact with eQ-3 and Homematic:
Would be awsome! Also waiting for that. For now I added a lot trough home assistant as a backend and adding it to homey. But I am hitting the throttle limit in homematic cloud sadly.
any news to this?
The best solution would be direct access to the Homatic IP Home Control Unit (HmIP-HCU1). This also runs locally on the network.
I have over 100 Homematic devices, and Iām sure others do as well. I would love to use Homey, but unless Homey officially releases an update or statement about Homematic support, I canāt switch.
It would be very kind of you to inform the community about the current status.
Iāve already sent Athom three emails about this, but unfortunately, I never received a reply.
Always happy to share where things stand! As Iāve mentioned before, if you donāt hear anything from me, it usually means thereās nothing new to report ![]()
We havenāt received any updates from the Homematic team in quite a while. Their own OpenAPI progress page still states a planned release for May 2025⦠and, well, according to my calendar, that was three months ago. Currently they only have a draft available.
At this point, the ball is in Homematicās court, weāre just waiting to hear back from them.
Thank you for the update. If Iām not mistaken, Homematic is encouraging others to develop plugins for their HCU. Even though they havenāt updated the status page, they have published the Connect API documentation on GitHub and are inviting anyone interested to develop a plugin for the HCU based on this documentation.
Based on my 10 years of experience with eQ-3/Homematic, Iām quite certain they will never develop a plugin for Homey themselves. This would be the end of this story.
Iām not a developer, but from what Iāve read on their GitHub pages, it seems that a third party could already develop a plugin using the Connect API documentation and I read in a forum that some enthusiastic developers already did.
So the real question is: who is willing to build such a plugin? Iām absolutely convinced that eQ-3 never will.
So Iām not sure ā in whose court is the ball now?
PS: The HCU can already be switched to developer mode, allowing you to upload your own plugins. Iād be more than happy to support the process with my HCU.
Thatās good to know.
That said, a successful partnership requires commitment from both sides. Iāll follow up with Homematic to check on their progress and see if theyāre still interested in pursuing this collaboration.
Thank you very much for your quick response ā I truly appreciate it.
I completely understand your perspective, especially considering how broadly Homey already supports hardware from many other vendors.
However, Iām convinced that we wonāt achieve the goal of integrating Homematic this way ā and the reason for that isnāt Homey. Iāve been a Homematic IP user for over 10 years, and if thereās one thing thatās been consistent throughout, itās eQ-3ās lack of willingness to open up to other platforms ā in some cases, theyāve even actively blocked integration efforts. Just take the cloud warning with Home Assistant as an example: IP addresses were temporarily blocked if they generated too much traffic on their servers. Iām not sure if this is still the case with the HCU.
From my personal perspective, eQ-3 behaves like a typical monopolist. The release of the Connect API is merely a first tentative step. I highly doubt they will ever go beyond offering a basic integration option ā and they will certainly never provide a plugin themselves.
So unless an enthusiastic developer steps in and builds a plugin for the HCU, we will never see proper integration with Homey. And the ones left behind are the users. Iāve invested nearly ā¬8,000 into my Homematic smart home setup, and due to eQ-3ās behavior, I sometimes regret that decision. But thereās no real way out for me, since Homematic still holds a significant market share in Germany.
Users like me are effectively cut off from the Homey ecosystem. The workaround via Home Assistant is too unreliable for my needs. Thereās also no Matter plugin for the HCU yet ā which could have been another viable path to integrate the devices into Homey.
I strongly believe it would be worth it for Athom to develop such a plugin themselves ā especially considering how much more attractive Homey could become for the German market.
Please donāt make the mistake of waiting for Homematic or eQ-3 to take the next step. Iāve been waiting in vain for over ten years for meaningful progress. And while the system is impressively stable ā thatās exactly why I want to switch to Homey.
And since hope is the last to die, Iād be very grateful if you could provide a final update here ā even if the answer is that there wonāt be an integration. That way, at least we can stop hoping and seriously start considering whether itās time to move away from Homematic.
Iāve been putting off this decision because I donāt know which direction things will go. But if I knew for sure that an integration isnāt going to happen, I might actually take that step ā because my target system is Homey.
I think a simple and well-functioning interface has advantages for both sides. Homey owners could integrate the Homematic devices into one system. Homematic could sell many of their good products to Homey users.
Hereās how it works: for each integration on the platform, we no longer develop them internally. Instead, we focus on improving the Homey platform itself and work with external development agencies to build integrations. These agencies work closely with us, and often with the partner brand as well.
Who covers the cost of development depends on how we structure the partnership. If a brand isnāt willing or able to fund the development, we can always choose to invest in it ourselves. In that case, we also need to look at having a business case of course.
That said, Iām fairly confident that a business case for an official Homematic integration could be worthwhile. However, our first step is always to reach out to the brand and explore the possibility of a mutually beneficial partnership; for them, for us, and for the users of both platforms.
This is exactly the kind of mutually beneficial partnership Iām referring to; one where everyone, including the end users, stands to gain. But for it to truly work, all parties need to be actively involved.
Thank you for the detailed explanation ā your approach makes perfect sense, and I fully understand that building sustainable partnerships is essential, both from a technical and a business perspective.
That said, I still have serious doubts about whether eQ-3 has any real interest in such a partnership. Their track record when it comes to openness and third-party collaboration is, frankly, discouraging. The fact that they still havenāt responded to your outreach in months says a lot in itself ā and unfortunately, itās in line with their behavior over the past years.
I donāt want to sound too pessimistic, but this is simply what my experience with eQ-3 over the past decade has taught me.
Of course, I understand and respect that you focus your resources on integrations that are backed by solid partnerships. But in this case, it feels like the opportunity is being blocked by eQ-3ās unwillingness to engage ā and thatās frustrating for users who have heavily invested in their ecosystem.
In the end, I appreciate that youāre exploring this in good faith and with the users in mind. I just hope that, even in the absence of cooperation from eQ-3, some form of workaround or community-led solution will eventually be possible.
PS: If you somehow manage to pull this off and get an official Homematic integration going ā the first beer is on me! ![]()
Now thatās an offer I canāt refuse ![]()
Iāll likely meet their team at IFA in Berlin early September, so you can expect an update around that time.
Now that sounds promising ā I might have to raise my offer then! ![]()
Letās make it two beers and a proper German pretzel.
I really appreciate how transparent and responsive you are in this conversation ā thatās not something you see every day, especially in such a fast-moving tech space.
If thereās anything I can do to help once things move forward ā whether itās testing, providing feedback, or even covering the topic on your YouTube channelā Iād be more than happy to contribute. Just let me know.
Looking forward to hearing what comes out of IFA!
