[APP][Pro] Android TV - Community (deprecated)

For me it also works with native apps like Netflix, Prime, Disney+ etc. The only app it is not working for is the ZiggoGo app for some reason.

Hi, since yesterday 18.08. The app keeps crashing. HP19 pro. V 0.3.0

Tried restarting app and restarting homey. Still crashes. There was an update on homey to v10 earlier that day

The same for me

@lucasvdh are you still updating this app ?

I think he is not updating anymore

is it possible to add ambilight on/off and ambihue on/off option?
(ofcourse on Philips TV’s running android TV)

Hello all, I don’t have as much time to spend on this as I’d like but rest assured fixes are coming.

It took me a while because I was trying to get some of the issues fixed in the NPM package that this app depends upon. However I couldn’t get any response from the maintainer.

I’ve since removed the dependency and incorporated the Android Remote API client in the Homey app fixing some of the issues that you are all running in to.

The infinite crash loop should be fixed. Please note that your Android TV device might still be unavailable, but it will no longer crash the entire app.

I’ll also try and add more documentation explaining why your device might be marked as unavailable. In most cases a hard reboot (completely powering down) of the Android TV device will fix a crashed Remote Service, which is what the Homey app talks to.

Next on the list is trying to get the memory usage down, after that I might have a look at new features.

New version (v0.5.1) now available as the test version.

This version adds:

  • a repair flow for when TV was unpaired
  • a refactor of the androidtv-remote dependency to an internal TypeScript module to fix issues, improve performance and allow for more control and flexibility.
  • removed unused packages for a lower memory usage

It fixes:

  • the infinite crash loop when TV is unavailable

And two new sections have been added to the FAQ docs:

@lucasvdh after updating the app is unavailable

Also when deleting en re install

@Mark1541 sorry to hear that, can you please manually submit a diagnostic report from the app’s settings page and dm me the reference?

A new version (v0.5.2) was just released to stable.

This version :

  • fixes a “device not found” error crashing the app when an unpaired message is received
  • removes unused dependencies reducing the app’s size from 25 to 5mb

This version seems to fix the last bug I was receiving. @Mark1541 is your app working again, if not could you please manually submit a diagnostic report?

@Dennis_Moonen sadly, probably not.

The Android TV app relies on Chromecast for device discovery, but not every Chromecast-enabled device will necessarily be compatible with this app. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found a way to effectively filter the discovered devices.

To determine if the app will work with your setup, here’s a helpful rule of thumb: If you’re able to install the Android TV Remote Service on your device, then it should work seamlessly with the Android TV app for Homey.

Hope this helps clarify the situation! If you have any further questions or run into any issues, feel free to ask. Good luck! :+1:

New test version (v0.6.0) now available.

This version adds:

  • the channel up and channel down buttons as a capability
  • the channel up and channel down buttons to the flow card actions

Hey everyone,

I’m thrilled to tell you about what inspired the Android TV app. At first, I planned to make a post, but then I realized it might be even better to show you a real example of what the app can do. So, here’s a lively use case that really brings it to life.

(Please note that I haven’t added the English flow examples yet).

Feel free to share any thoughts or suggestions you have. Let’s keep refining this app together!

Cheers!

Nice! But… Standby of tv’s is 50 to 100 watt??? That’s really not true…

A modern tv only consumes 0,5 watt in standby… There is even a European law that says that a TV may not use a lot more than that.

So, the example is nice, but the data is not correct.

That might be true for newer TV’s but my old Philips TV has a massive power consumption when in standby

I’ll look into updating the example to reflect newer TV’s though, Thanks for the feedback!

The younger gen probably don’t use devices older than 3 years
