Hi everyone,
First of all, this is a super exciting new development, and I’m sure it will continue to improve over time. Since there isn’t much information available yet, I wanted to ask about something I’ve noticed.
When I ask ChatGPT about my regular Flows, it can find and discuss them without any issues. However, when I ask about a specific Advanced Flow (using the exact name), it usually responds as if it can’t find it.
Is this a current limitation of the Homey MCP integration? Can ChatGPT only start Advanced Flows, or should it also be able to inspect and understand their structure?
Has anyone successfully used ChatGPT to analyze or troubleshoot an existing Advanced Flow?
Thanks!
I didn’t try ChatGPT, but, I did use Claude. I gave it my login credentials and it was able to find all of my devices, apps, and most of my flows. It couldn’t find one of my more complex flows and needed the UUID. Then it was able to find it and analyze it.
Claude had problems with modifying some of the Flow cards. It did create a lighting flow based upon luminance during the day.
So, a mixed review. Not perfect, but, pretty good.
Thanks for the quick reply! I’ve also been able to control my devices through ChatGPT with varying success — sometimes it doesn’t find everything on the first try, but it’s definitely improving.
Interesting that providing the UUID helped with the more complex Advanced Flow. How can I find the UUID of an Advanced Flow in Homey?
You can only see this in the browser of your PC (or Mac). The string will look something like
https://my.homey.app/homeys/xxxx/devices/e7370ca0-4392-4693-9745-34813388fdd3
It’s the last bit of hex code after the last “slash”. Note that I wasn’t sure if the link would allow someone to directly access my Homey Pro, so, I changed some of the digits in the hex code string.
Perfect, thanks a lot
It would be better if it worked by name instead of UUID, but this works fine as well — really appreciate the explanation, very helpful!
Just to clarify. This happened only one time, for an advanced flow. All other devices, flows, rooms, zones, etc., seem to be properly identified. However, some times Claude refers to a device using a hex code. Not sure where it’s being picked up from, but, it still seems to work in terms of building or modifying a flow.
You should remove the Cloud ID from the URL (string starting with 6932). It’s a unique identifier that allows anyone to reach your Homey remotely
It’s best to remove the biggest part of that string
