[APP][Pro] Android TV - Take control of your TV experience

Sounds like a good idea! I would suggest a browser like Puffin browser is your best option.

Edit: Puffin requires a subscription nowadays… Browshere is an option. It works, but not for the dashboards. I don’t think Athom will create an Android TV app. Perhaps a Web OS app though…

Yeah, A web based Homey-app would be fine too. If it would work with all browsers. Browsers are crappy on Andriod TV…

True, browsers do suck on Android TV

I have the 0.80 version of the app installen, and this new version. So i have two android tv versions now on homey. But.. i can onlye add a device in the old 0.80 version app.. there is no way for me to add the same google tv device to the new android tv app.. What am i doing wrong here?

Goal is to dim the lights in the cinema, when google tv is playing.

Do you get an error message when trying to add?

So I have two Android TV apps now on my homey. But when I try to add a new device via the blue plus sign, then the next step is to search for Android TV, then I will only find the original Android TV app that is available to add an extra device to it.

So , before, I installed the new Android TV from the online web store, Which added the new Android TV app to my homey, having two androids TV apps on my homey now. But in the adding device process it does not take this new Android TV app into account.

That’s weird! If I add a new device, in the suggestions it shows both Android TV apps, but if I search, I only see one.

Perhaps because it has the same name:

Nice! that helped! Thank you very much.
Next goal: having the device to notice that Google TV is playing or stopped playing.
By testing, i conclude that i can start or pause Google TV via the device buttons in Homey,
But.. when i use my Google Remote control, the device in homey does not get the play or pause information. Did someone get this to work?

The new app is currently going through certification and testing. It will appear in the App Store and become searchable once it has been approved. Just so you’re aware, the developer is on holiday until the 17th.

Once the new app is published, the old app will be hidden to avoid any confusion.

Thanks for the clarification!

Good morning!

Updated my network and that way my Android TV devices have received a new IP address. No problem, just update it. However, after updating it I get a time out and the update is not being processed.
The “Try to repair button” does show up, but after hitting this the screen just continues to show “Loading”

I could try to add it again, but then I will have to update some advanced flow that have a LOT of occurrences of this device

I Also tried the Amazon Alexa way with my Philips TV and it works!
Perhaps this way of forcing the device to remain or don’t go in to a certain power idle is something to have in this app?

What do you mean with “The Amazon Alexa way”?

I have also these problems with my samsung tv. When the chromecast is on, i could do everything with the android app on my mobile. Except changing source and the volume buttons aren’t working.
Is the chromecast off, i can’t switch my tv on. Even when the chromecast is turning on.
Unfornately i can’t power on my tv directly, i can’t find any app that works.

Maybe also a request to make the controlbuttons in the android tv app a little bit user friendly?
When navigating to the ziggo app and start for example a record, it’s very confusing to use the correct buttons for up/ down/ left/ right and confirm.
Maybe these buttons could me the same integrated like the chromecast itself (next to each other with a little bit space in between)?

Is would be great if someone could help me with turning my tv on and off. (maybe with another app. I tried android tv, smart tv, smartthings etc).

FYI, if you already have the old Android TV app installed:
I installed the Android TV app (Drenso VOF; v1.2.2), but when adding my TV again, the device appears in the Android TV app (Lucas v/d Have; v0.8.0).
You’ll need to uninstall the Lucas Android TV app first. Make sure to take screenshots of your flows beforehand, because you’ll lose the parameters in the flows that include devices from the old Android TV app.

After that it worked!

Possible bug:
Every time i add the press_key-card : [Then] Press Key (input) , when selecting the input the app crashes.

Hello,

First a big thank you to @lucasvdh for all the work in the App for Android TV.

Then tanks also to Homey to get that work and put this app as official.

I switched yesterday my Google TV devices from the old app to the new one and I was with some issues because of my network, so just to give here some feedback if some users have the same situation:

I have my network with VLAN’s

  • Homey Pro is connected to VLAN 30
  • Google Devices are connected on VLAN 10

If I try to add the Google device like this will fail. The app will say that “No device found”.

  • So, provisory, I connected Google TV devices to VLAN 30, the same as Homey Pro.
  • Added the devices on Homey Pro using the new “Android TV” app.
  • Connected again Google TV devices to the original VLAN 10.
  • On Homey right away, the devices appear with error.
  • On the device → Advanced Settings → Change manually the IP to the correct one, that match the device on VLAN 10.
  • And after some seconds all good. The devices work as they should.

Thank you.

So, there is no issue with the app. You just have an atypical setup.

I currently have two integrated Google TVs that unfortunately lose their connection every few days. As a result, they no longer respond to automations. Restarting the app doesn’t solve the issue. So far, only device repair through maintenance seems to temporarily fix the problem.

When I add a device, it works properly for a day or two. After that, every action will give the error ‘Could not get device by id’. Restarting the app or device repair does nothing. Disabled IPv6 already. Anyone had this issue and knows what can trigger it?
