Hi, I’m Johan, I’m nearly 70 years old and have a technical profession audio techniques behind me where I did mainenance of reel to reel recorders for a library for the blind in Holland. I got some hands on expirience from maintenance persons of the NRU lateron NOS in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and I moved on to the start of digital recording technology setup in the 1990’s. From thereon I stopped the electronics work and I moved on with giving help and instructions to volunteer readers of talking books and periodicals. Here I learned that I have to express myself in such a way that I can explain to everyone what I want them to do for me in a comfortable way. Volunteers have to feel themselves at home with me. Only then can I get their trust they will do the reading the way I would like them to read the books.
Schooling:
I have finished my schooling with a 4 year course of Electronics TELECOMMUNICATION in 1977 (approxemately) on the MTS (middelbare technische school ) polytechnical college in Almelo after which I got the mainenance job 44 years at the christian library for the Blind in Ermelo Holland.
Sinds the upcoming of the internet I got hooked on what I can do with this medium, and home automation is one of my favourites. Here I have to make an adjustment: I am NOT into programming and I have NO affection to LOGICS. To say it bluntly: I DO NOT WANT TO MARRY TO LOGIC. I am USING a pc, sometimes misusing…… , I want to use applications when they are “ mature” and without too many programming faults, or when it becomes too difficult for me to understand. I stopped a course BASIC programming in my 1st year of going to the polytechnical college because when logic “said 1, I disagreed with it and found that it should be a 0”. So logic and me dissagreed and we divorced, and I kept it that way, that is why I keep on bumping my head in home automation. Another thing which I really hate is that people who make the nicest hard- or software make it hard for me to understand how to work with it, beause they tend to forget sometimes to mention ALL the steps to make it work, and I, “the fool on the hill,” gets lost because I cannot make the mindjump to bridge the missing gap. Who is at fault? That is up to you to decide.
I am in my second childhood now and I would like to have fun for the reminder of my days…….. Please make it happen.
