Any tradeoffs with specific coordinators?

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like I’ll be using a fairly common setup. Does anyone know if Homey can use the SLZB-MR2U for Matter over Thread? Can it be used as a border router or should I just stick to my Apple TV for that?

No, you’d need a bridge that bridges the Thread devices to Homey over the network/cloud, for example a Tuya Matter gateway with Thread. USB dongles don’t work.

Edit: I see it’s a network-connected dongle, but I don’t think this will work with Homey.

Yes indeed, it has a separate Thread controller next to its zigbee controller (unlike Homey which uses a shared chip for both (aka Multi-PAN)).
You can select it as Thread Border Router to use with Homey

You can use it as an OpenThread Border Router and use it with Homey that way. It can either works as the Thread Network for Homey Self-Hosted Server or join Homey Pro’s Thread Network.
