Has somebody made firmware updates of Shelly Z-Wave or other Z-Wave manufacturer? I found only instructions over HomeAssistent. But i don’t want HA only to do Firmware Updates for ZWAVE.
Any ideas or instruction links?

Homey cannot perform OTA updates for Z-Wave.

Yes i know. But the question is, has anywhere a step by step instruction to do it with pc contoller? To install home Assistent only for updates is not the solution. I bought a aerotec stick and install pc contoller, connect with homey, but then i get an error to read the firmware Information.

I tried by buying an Aeotec Stick Gen5+ and doing as described but in the end, the stick is added to Homey Pro and PC controller but a firmware update can not be performed… -.-

Hi, have a lock at these Topic. It is in German but the same Problem.

The result is, you cant make updates with your stick in homey. You can use a pc with a software or use home assistent.
When you need more information also in english i can help a little bit.

Hmm… Thank you for linking to a post with a guide… After reading the guide it would appear that extra z-wave USB controller connected to PC is required.

Is there no way of completing OTA update from Homey… This almost feels like we are not suppose to update the firmware of the devices keeping safety and functionality up to latest.

Only during the update…

I don’t quite understand what you mean by that?

It’s not the best variant, but it works. So if you want to keep your devices up to date, then this is currently the only solution without home assistant…

What I ment was, that the process of keeping z-wave devices updated when having Homey as automation hub is not an integrated and sleek experience aligning with my perseption of Homey image.

The whole issue driving this for me actually is the search for a solution of another problem where a Shelly wave PM1 looses inclusion and can not be reached after power outage.

Hi, has you testet to restart the Shelly app an then the module is reconnected? I have sometimes the same problem ( but i have not often electrical problems). After restart the app of the vendor the modul is connecting and works fine.

Ahh ok, now i understand. Of course, it would be better if you could perform updates directly via Homey, but unfortunately not and will probably not change in the foreseeable future. In a You Tube podcast, Athom once talked about why this is not so easy to implement…

My suggested variant would solve your problem and you could also keep all other devices up to date.

Hmm the Shelly app…? Can that app even be used with z-wave Shelly wave PM1 module? Have not found a way of pairing the module with Shelly phone app.

No, Shelly App cannot manage Z-Wave Modules

Okay, we need a bit more clarity. Shelly App as a standalone App on Handy or Tablet cannot manage zwave devices. Shelly app on Homey can manage all devices but cannot update the devices. To Update Zwave device you need a separte smart home control center. I use a Zwave stick of Aquara an have Home Assistant on an Raspberry Pi. Also you can use Program on PC an a Zwave Sick. But the Software is not easy to use or I was too stupid to use it.

I completely agree to the point that the solution via home assistant is easier…
