Hi, I have a Balboa heater system BP6013G1 in my hot tub. Since I have solar panels, I would like to put all the unused power into the hot tub. If there is only 500W available, it should also put that 500W in the heater. I don’t think the Balboa app can do this. It’s only ON/OFF. No power control. I was thinking on putting some kind of PWM relay between the Balboa controller and the heating element but I can’t find one which can do 3000W (max of the system). Any tips are welcome. Or any other directions I can look at. Thanks in advance. ---

Most Spas have target temperature, but the heating element(s) are with fixed power. You would neet to make significant electrical changes to your spa. Don’t know if the Balboa spa control unit will detect and fault the heating element if it isn’t working the way it should. I have Balboa controlles spa also, the heating element is about 2500W + 250W for water circulation when heating. Currently my setup is that there must be 2.5kW free energy, to turn on or off. An other option is to add an independent heater, maybe heat pump which is not connected to Balboa. Now comes to question, how much do you want to pay to save money 😉 ---

Thanks for the info! I do have a filter setup which is’nt connected to the Balboa system. There is a seperate pump for that. I’ll have to look for a heating element which I can put in line with that. + a temperature sensor. I think this will be the simplest and hopfully cheapest setup. ---

Lucky you. I’ve been thinking about setting up an additional filtering system, maybe add heating to it to optimize all available solar for it.
