Hi Doekse, Great to see both of them as guests on the show ā€” Iā€™ve been following Shane Whatley and Paul Hibbert on YouTube for years now šŸ™Œ One question Iā€™d love to hear their thoughts on: Paul recently shared quite a strong rant about Amazon Alexa on YouTube, and weā€™re now seeing a shift toward more personal, locally running AI assistants that can control smart homes ā€” largely driven by privacy concerns. How do they view this development? Do they see a future where a personal, on-device AI assistant becomes the central brain of the smart home? And are they already experimenting with setups like this themselves, or planning to in the near future? Iā€™m personally experimenting with running a local AI assistant (Gemma 4) on a dedicated Mac Mini using Openclaw, so Iā€™m especially interested in how they see this space evolving. Good choice on guest for the podcast. I would like to hear both guys thoughts on pairing some devices via Zigbee and others via Thread and how to avoid interference and drop outs with multiple protocols in the same Smart Home set up. ---

@Doekse , at the 30.30 mark in the podcast you mention that you have Sonos slightly mute what is playing, says what it needs to say and then play at the set volume again. How did you do that? In my case everything stops playing. ---

Nope, it doesnā€™t. It stops playing all together. I have it state that someoneā€™s at the door when my Eufy bell is rung. Yes, using the official Sonos app. I have a Sonos play bar, Sonos Ray and 5 IKEA speakers. In most cases they all work as one group when they are interrupted because someone rings the bell ---

Hi @Doekse I would like to suggest a topic for one of the upcoming podcasts: Where does Athomā€˜s/Homeyā€˜s journey go to with AI? What is your vision? What can we expect from you? Reason for this suggestion: I canā€™t beliebe that the rate and function limited MCP server and completely leaving the field to community apps is your end of the line answer to AI. ---

Hi @Doekse, I think Athom very well knows what problems Homeyā€™s Zigbee integration has. And why (i.e.) a setup with a SLZB-06 Zigbee coƶrdinator and Zigbee2MQTT works so much more better and reliable than Homeyā€™s integrationā€¦ Adding device classes doesnā€™t solve such problems; Athom is very well aware of that.
