I did have similar issues some time ago, but in my case it was due to multiple zigbee and Zwave plugs that I had unplugged and stored without removing them from Homey. On the Developer interface I could see that Homey kept trying to reach them and that clogged the whole system. Since then I check now on the number of connection issues and everything is working fine again

That’s interesting HansVee! I don’t think I have many Zigbee or Zwave units that are not in use…but I’ll have to check that. Where can you see that Homey is trying to reach such devices in Dev tools?

Could this be the case for 433 MHz troubles also? I do know that 433 MHz sensors are one way, to Homey, but is Homey “listening” for 433 MHz sensors that are registered but not active? I have three sensors that are in the system but with removed batteries due to that they are used strictly during summer time (pool stuff). They are always displayed with the red triangle and I get notifications about them from time to time that they are offline.

If you look at the Zwave page on tools.developer.homey.app you can look at the Tx errors. If a device has many errors and/or you have several unknown devices this may impact the performance of your Homey. In our case everything seemed to be impacted: we use the KlikAan AYCT-102 a lot (perfect remote control for up to 20 devices) to control zigbee and Zwave devices but things became very erratic. After removing the problematic items everything worked perfectly again

Sadly, or rather happily, I only have one Zwave device with TX errors and that’s just 1(33%) errors.

However I can see that 5 out of 8 Zwave devices are “Unreachable”. This is strange since several of them have worked fine today. Just now one of them (that is marked unreachable) is reporting “Power” just now.

EDIT: I ran a test on each of them I Dev tools and now they aren’t marked as unreachable any longer…

Hi!

How many ZigBee devices do you have? I’ve had a terrible time with the network lately. Some devices were disappearing, not responding, and sometimes losing range. Something was always happening, and when I added a few more Aqara light switches, it was a total disaster. Only later did I find out that the Homey Pro 2019 has a limit on the number of ZigBee devices – it apparently supports a maximum of 30-40.

To get things sorted out, I had to remove a few less important devices from the network and leave only the most important ones. Since then, problems occur much less frequently. I even wrote to the manufacturer to clarify the issue and am waiting for a response.

I’m considering buying a Homey Pro 2023 because I’ve heard it supports up to 100 ZigBee devices. I currently have about 60, so it should solve my problems. What about you?

Regards

Thank you for your info Raczyslaw!

At the moment I have 27 Zigbee devices, so I should be safe in that regard.

I’m also considering upgrading to the Pro 2023. If one believe Athoms statements about it, it has better range in all protocols and that can never be bad. However the price is still hard to motivate if the Pro 2019 is still functioning.

So the current state for my system is that it’s performing well again. It’s two days since I found the Zigbee bulb that was acting suspicious and since I switched to a different power supply. I didn’t find a smoking gun but I suspect more than one culprit. First it was a 433 MHz sensor with low battery that messed up the 433 MHz protocol. Then it was the Zigbee bulb that took out the Zigbee protocol. And maybe the power supply contributed to all or some of the instability. I’ll give it a few days and if all is good I’ll test the old power supply and see what happens. I’ll report back if there is interest.

Thank you all that have posted constructive things in this thread. Forums are fantastic when there are helpful and to the point posts from kind members. 🙂

That’s the recommended number “for the best user experience”.
Some users managed to run zigbee 71 devices. Depends on many factors

There are environmental factors to take into consideration that will make it very difficult to put an upper limit on what Homey can handle, and that’s not even taking into account how well the _software_ will work.

I use Homey Pro 2023 for more than a year.
In the beginning I only had 433 devices (as I came from Domoticz with RFXtrx433XL interface).
I was extremely disappointed in the receiving range from Homey. Door sensors, PIR’s, weather station, the reception of their 433 data was close to useless.
On the other hand, the transmitting range is acceptable. Not so good as with the RFXtrx433 device but most plugs did work.

I now have hardly any 433 device anymore. Most is Z-Wave and that works great.

Well, isn’t that typical…when checking the system when I woke up today I was faced with this:

 ![IMG_9063](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/e/4/e428e2ac4caaa2e954361f1782cfdf75eb70b098.png)

Restarting the app did nothing but rebooting Homey woke up the 433 MHz-system again.

But you never used the Pro 2019 right, so you can’t compare between the two?

I came from Tellstick to the Pro 2019 and the difference is night and day. Tellstick is far superior to Homey regarding 433 MHz sensors both in receiving range and data updating. In Homey there can be hours between data updates while in Tellstick it’s seconds and minutes for the same sensor.

This is so incredibly toxic, and the exact reason why i got rid of Homey. The community behind it seems so nice and welcoming. But the top contributors are generally unpleasant to interact with. This is a key example.

Not responding on topic at all. The only contribution being about a single letter that is misplaced. It disgusts me.

My native language is not English, so i truly hope that i will not offend Peter with my horrendous grammar. Otherwise i am sure he will gladly point it out to me!

I lost faith in Homey many months ago. Not just because of the faulty product and company behind it. But especially because of the hostile community around it.

That’s how I feel also. Many users on this forum are really toxic and have a “know it all” attitude bashing other users for their questions, suggestions and ability to express themself in text. It’s so sad.

Although I do agree on some parts you wrote, the name of this topic is “Starting to loose faith in Homey”.
How to respond on-topic then? You got more help here than I expexted with such a topic title.

Many community users want to help others; so perhaps it’s a good idea to change the topic title to something more constructive. If you describe in the title what your problem is, the more willing users might be attracted…

You are completely right Henk\_Renting. The topic is really bad and I can only credit that to my frustration. I should have created individual threads for the different issues I had in this category of the forum (with correct topics) and posted a thread about the my concern of Homey as a unreliable controller in a category more suitable for general discussion.

However, Peter\_Kawa choose to post a petty misspelling remark instead of writing what you did and I found that really unnecessary. And the sad thing is that Peter\_Kawa is by no means the only toxic member of this forum. There are several members that belittle and bash others here…many of them really knowledgeable and competent Homey users that could be of great help for less knowledgeable users if they had a more humble approach.

True, I can not compare. I can only share my experience with the 433 tool which should tell you not to be too enthousiastic for the 2023 model…

But you can buy, test, compare and return if you are disappointed (or keep if you are glad with the results).

It would be better to address your frustrations to Athom’s support department, not here in the Community. Homey users here cannot help with what Athom might or might not do.

Most users here are willing to help, but addressing your frustrations here does not facilitate constructive discussion or a solution to your problems. Your opinion on Peter is also clear by now.

The French have a nice saying, “c’est le ton qui fait la musique,” applicable to every user here.

Why not? Other members of this forum has chimed in expressing the same feeling in this thread…should we all be silenced? If the cause of the frustration can be solved by the forum isn’t that better than bothering Atoms support team?

So far I have learned several things by starting this thread such as “Download full system software”, to many apps hogging memory, Homey searching for unused devices, that Athom can reflash Homey, that too many Zigbee devices can mess the system up, that a Pro 2023 might not have better 433 MHz coverage and that a couple of Homey users did give up and went to a different system.

All very constructive things for me to take with me next time my Homey decides to frustrate me.

About the French saying: do you really think that my topic and first post in this thread warrant snipe comments about my spelling? Please read the first post again and tell me if there is anything there that is “bad tone”.

That’s a good idea if I decide to upgrade. I think I also will first ask Athom directly if I can expect better coverage of the different protocols with the 2023 than the 2019. If the answer is “yes” I have a good case if it turns out to be the opposite. 👍

As the Dutch saying goes: “We from WC Eend recommend WC Eend”.

Athom already states on the product page that HP2023 has a better range for every wireless protocol (although they conveniently forgot to include the actual test conditions), but like I said, ask around or read the forum.

From what I’ve read: 433Mhz range is (much) worse, Z-Wave is better, and Zigbee still isn’t great (with lots of people reporting devices dropping out of the network regularly). HP2023 is also much more sensitive to correct placement.
