No, they are not connected for alarm sounds and you can not externally trigger the alarms as well.

But since you have Homey, you can play alarm sounds on your smart speakers (and have them say where smoke is detected), add external sirenes, turn on (or flash) your lights, open the curtains, blinds, close gas main, etc, etc…

I recommend frient or develco smoke detector. They work very well and integration is easy.

For these devices: when a smoke alarm is triggered, do they all sound the alarm?
Or is homey able to trigger the alarm?

Dont want to add yet another device (seperate sounder) to the wall. Especially not when the smoke alarm has a sounder.

I only found the popp to support this. (But did not see friend or develco yet)

With v2 of the Frient app, you are able to trigger the alarm of the smoke sensor, heat sensor and leakage sensor from within Homey…
Warning: it is creating a hell of noise!

Hello. I’m considering getting the Homey Pro, but am not a Homey user yet. I also want [Owl Wired](https://getowlhome.com/products/owl-wired-combined-smoke-carbon-monoxide-motion-climate-sensor) smoke detectors (Matter, HomeKit, Alexa, IFTT and Google compatible). The Owl is a very new product. What is the likelihood that I would be able to control it or utilise Owl’s many sensors via Homey?

Hello,

It _should_ work with Matter sensor devices, but it’s a bit in an early stage.
According to this article below, from sensor types _only motion- and contact sensors are supported by Matter itself_ for now → so I guess only the motion sensor of the Owl Wired should work for now.

Support for other sensors like smoke, air quality is on the roadmap without ETA:

That’s a very useful set of articles - thanks! I read about Matter a while back, but I’m impatient and hoped it was further advanced by now. I assume smoke detectors will be last on the list - potentially life-saving devices - so they won’t want to take any risks.

Am I right in thinking that when Matter is ready on Homey Pro, I would be able to connect to Matter devices (such as the [Matter-enabled Owl sensor](https://getowlhome.com/blogs/news/owl-devices-to-support-matter-iot-protocol)) without having to rely on Homey adding a dedicated app or device to the list of supported devices?

Hmmm, I consider any Homey model or/and any wireless device, not suitable to for potentially life-saving devices. Homey is not 24/7/365 reliable, just like any wireless system isn’t. Just my thought on safety.

You’re right, but reading is better than thinking (sorry) 😉 . It’s in the [Homey Matter how to](https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/9075551662108-Matter-Beta-for-Homey-Pro-Early-2023)

I really hope it stays like that, to not need any Homey app for standard Matter capabilities

I agree. Luckily I already have a hard-wired smoke detection system in my house, so the [Owl Wired](https://getowlhome.com/blogs/news/owl-wired-featured-on-new-york-times) is appealing. In _theory_, the smoke detection element is stable and separate (and hopefully never needed), but the other sensors on the device can be utilised in a smart home system on a daily basis.

Apparently :“Owl Wired has the ability to connect to multiple traditional smoke alarms at a time throughout your house so that you can be informed by phone of smoke in any part of your house.”

As you say, nothing is 100% reliable, but this would give me two ways of being notified when I’m not there: 1. Owl wired connection to the other conventional detectors, and 2. HomePod listening for an alarm sound. The downside is that Owl probably would not be able to silence the ‘dumb’ alarms.

I am considering to replace my (good old) Smoke Detectors with connected ones…

Obviously, I want detectors:

- _having their own speakers_ (as the first items to burn could be the Homey, my Router, my Modem, … )
- but _I don’t want false alarm_ in the middle of the night.

Unfortunately, false alarms are “sometimes” reported on the web with connected smoke detectors.
**=\>** Could you _report, after at least one year of use, if you experienced false alarms with the various brand you mentioned above_ ? (I named here under the persons who did suggest a brand)

First, regarding the “top 4 brands” published [by Homey](https://homey.app/en-us/best-buy-guide/find-the-best-smoke-detector-for-your-smart-home/) :

- Xiaomi : [Honeywell Smoke Detector or Aqara](https://www.mi-home.pro/goods/aqara_smart_smoke_detector_homekit) - Zigbee, 80 dB, 1 x CR123A battery 5 years lifetime, ~30€ (aliexpress) to ~60€
- Fibaro : [Smoke Sensor 2 FGSD-002](https://www.fibaro.com/en/products/smoke-sensor/) - Z-Wave, 85 dB, 1 x CR123A battery 2 years lifetime , ~60€ or 155€ for 3.
- Frient: [Intelligent Smoke Alarm](https://frient.com/products/intelligent-smoke-alarm/) - Zigbee, 85 dB, 1 x CR123A battery 3 years lifetime, ~40€
- Trust: [Smoke Detector ZSDR-850](https://www.trust.com/fr/product/71197-zigbee-smoke-detector-zsdr-850) - Zigbee, 85 dB, 1 x CR123A battery 3 years lifetime, ~30€

@Frank_van_de_Schuur, @Undertaker @Peter_Kawa @janklamer @RuudBinnendijk @Michiel_Nijmegen have a “flavor” of Trust. I realized indeed that the same hardware as the Trust ZSDR-850 is sold as :

- Heiman : [Z-Wave smoke detector HS1SA-Z](https://www.heimantech.com/product/index.php?type=detail&id=50), Z-Wave, 85 dB, 1 x CR17335 battery 3V 3 years lifetime, ~20€ or 75€ for a pack of 5
- Heiman has also a new version : Z-Wave smoke detector **v2** HS3SA-Z (~40€). This one more difficult to find
- Heiman exists also in Zigbee : HS1SA- **E** (150€ on aliexpress for a pack of 5) and HS3SA- **E** , with 1 x CR17335 3V battery 3 years lifetime battery
- I found the Heiman Zigbee sold under yet another brand : Adurosmart Eria, at 100€ for a pack of 3 (clearly advertise as compatible with Homey pro on RobbShop.nl
- Nedis : [DTCTSL40WT](https://nedis.nl/nl-nl/product/veiligheid-en-beveiliging/detectoren/rookmelders/550782095/smartlife-rookmelder-zigbee-30-batterij-gevoed-levenscyclus-sensor-10-jaar-en-14604-max-batterijduur-60-maanden-85-db-wit-1-stuks) - alias of Heiman (Zigbee)
- Zipato : [Smart Smoke Sensor](https://www.zipato.com/product/smart-smoke-sensor-zwave) - also alias of Heiman (Z-Wave)
- KlikAanKlikUit : [ZSDR-850](https://klikaanklikuit.nl/product/draadloze-rookmelder-met-statusweergave/) - alias of Trust (Zigbee) - but with an alarm of 85 dB

@Horst_Penker Paul\_Rade is suggesting:

- FIBARO : Smoke Sensor / Z-Wave Plus or (?)
- FIBARO : [Smoke Sensor 2](https://www.fibaro.com/en/products/smoke-sensor/) - Z-Wave Plus (See above the list published by Homey)

@Damian_Surma is suggesting:

- Frient (See above the list published by Homey) - alias Develco

@Adrian_Rockall is suggesting:

- Somfy : [Smoke Alarm](https://shop.somfy.co.uk/smoke-alarm-io/), to be used with Tahoma Box Somfy - IO based, 85 dB, 1 x 6LR61 9V battery 5 years lifetime (probably 2 years only if connected togethers), ~60€ or 430€ for a pack of 5 - NOT TO BE confused with “Somfy Protect Smoke Detector”

@Nelson1976 is suggesting:

- a noname smoke detector available on Aliexpress ([there are a lot](https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005005967477893.html)) using WiFi or Zigbee, compatible with Tuya, as of 50€ for a pack of 5… 😲 (Can we trust those ?)

Finally, I did see the other suggestions but would avoid them as the battery cannot be replaced - or they are much too expensive. Ex.:

Willem59 is suggesting:

- Fire Angel : [ST-630- INT Q or ST-630-INT](https://www.fireangel.nl/products/st-630-int-3) - Zigbee or Z-wave depending on an addon module, resp. Module ZB and Module ZW, 1 x lithium 3V battery **that can’t be replaced** 10 years lifetime, ~250€ for a pack of 6 (without the modules ~35€). There is also a version with the module Zwave already integrated : [Fireangel HT-630-EUT](https://www.fireangel.nl/products/ht-630-eut) (~60€)

Frank\_Hooft is suggesting:

- Netatmo : [NA-74-013](https://shop.netatmo.com/en-eu/security/smoke-alarms/smoke-alarm) - WiFi, 1 x battery **that cannot be replaced** 10 years lifetime ~80€ or ~220€ for a pack of 3

To summarize, I am interested in any concrete feedback of false alarms (or not) with Heiman (Nedis, Zipato, Trust, KlikAanKlikUit), Frient, Somfy or Fibaro (I am currently afraid due to the various posts about, mainly, Heiman and Fibaro having false alarms. I never had any in 10 years with my “standard” Abus at 35€)

No false alarms from my Somfy smoke detectors, apart from one out of the 5 that developed a fault and goes off continuously.
Even the one outside of the kitchen door hasn’t given a false alarm when cooking, where the old smoke alarm was frequently sounding when the oven door was opened.

Did you try them Spike? Has the matter connection moved on
