@Techniman thanks for suggesting users consider **ONVIF** to enable **REOLINK** security cameras
to work with Homey Pro, a great idea.

I don’t understand the ONVIF Protocol myself - so maybe another member can post a quick summary or some comments on ONVIF in his thread.
I have now found a Link see “[THREAD 4](https://community.homey.app/t/app-pro-support-for-onvif-compatible-cameras-release-2-0-41/28377)” Below.

Without properly thinking it through, I purchased a Battery model, should have purchased Mains.

- Model was - ARGUS PT Ultra 4K - Security Camera - can be powered over USB-C.
- Can also use bundled portable Solar Panels - to store energy into a - Built in BATTERY.
- This model is a 2023 Release - 8 MegaPixel - can be used either Internal or External.
- It has PT - Pan & Tilt - 5x Zoom - 2.4 Ghz Wi Fi - 5 Ghz Wi Fi.
- [**URL** - ARGUS - PT - ULTRA 4K - Battery Model - REOLINK - Europe - Approx €174 - Euros](https://reolink.com/es/product/argus-pt-ultra/)
- [**URL** - ARGUS - PT - ULTRA 4K & SR3 Solar - AMAZON-UK - Approx - £185 -£45 offer = £140](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reolink-PT-Security-Argus-Ultra/dp/B0BZD4P25M)

The - ARGUS PT - BATTERY - 4K - is a newer camera and does offer a fully featured and up to date spec for the price, so is great value, I am NOT intending to **CRITICISE** that model, but . . . .

- I made an UNWISE choice - in terms of HOMEY compatibility - as Reolink say their
BATTERY security cameras do NOT support ONVIF protocol or RTSP stream.
- [**URL** - Reolink blog, why battery based cameras cannot work with third party software](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004441753-Why-Reolink-Battery-Powered-Cameras-Cannot-Work-with-3rd-Party-Software)

In Summary, as a Reolink Homey App is not yet available. The only alternative is to use ONVIF.
So a WIRED Camera would be a better choice, as it enables Homey users to activate ONVIF.

The LATEST range of Reolink Security Cameras - have extensive NEW features,
but many of these now seem to be trending towards having a - BATTERY backup.

- [**URL** - REOLINK - USA - Lists ALL of the - New Cameras with BATTERY Backup](https://store.reolink.com/us/battery-security-cameras/)
- It is a shame that Reolink state that ONVIF is difficult - on models with an integrated battery.
- Reolink Camera list below, confirms only WIRED Reolink can support - CGI, RTSP, ONVIF.
- [**URL** - Official List - of ONVIF Supported cameras - Published by Reolink](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000617826-Which-Reolink-Products-Support-CGI-RTSP-ONVIF)

.
**Home Assistant** - does already have a Community APP - for **Reolink** - see Reddit below

- [**URL** - 5-Apr-2023 - REDDIT - “The Reolink **Home Assistant - Integration** - is Amazing”](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/12coght/the_new_home_assistant_reolink_integration_is/)

# Maybe the Homey Community can apply pressure on Reolink

- Maybe Reolink themselves or a Community Engineer could get a Homey APP written.
- I have already emailed direct to Reolink.
- I intend to post some threads on the Reolink Community forums myself.

# ONVIF - link here - Developers Notes - Adrian Rockall

- Adrian’s link below - was started when he created this ONVIF App - back in April 2020
- The link has over 1,350 threads in it - as of 22-Jan-204 and growing.
- Anyone interested in REOLINK and ONVIF, should go to Adrian’s thread,
which is packed with lots of thorough technical Information on how to use ONVIF.
- I earlier called it ONVIV which is incorrect - Correct term is ONVIF.

Interestlingly, ReoLink just announced it os joining the Works With Home Assistant program ([Reolink Is Teaming up With Home Assistant](https://www.howtogeek.com/reolink-is-teaming-up-with-home-assistant/)). I wonder if those API’s are going to be exposed and documented. If they are, that could be exciting for the rest of us.

The Reolink integration for HA has existed for years. The protocol isn’t documented as such (AFAIK) but the integration [is Open Source](https://github.com/starkillerOG/reolink_aio). It’s just that nobody has felt the need to implement a Homey equivalent 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good morning, I don’t know if this is what you mean, but I just perused through this document and I think it’s what you’re talking about:

It goes into pretty good detail, reminds me of the powershell documentation i search through to hack scripts together for work.

This isn’t a document that has only been made public recently, it’s just that nobody seems to be interested in making a Reolink app for Homey.

We’re currently working on adding support for camera streams in the Homey mobile app, and since Reolink is one of the major players, they’re definitely on our radar. I’m already in touch with their local team, so while there’s no timeline just yet, just know this hasn’t gone unnoticed! 😉

English:
Using the ONVIF app from Adrian Rockall, you’ll have to enable the “motion detection”. After that’s enabled you can use visitor detected (and other alarms). It took me a while too, to figure this out.
