I’m a bit stuck with my Matter network.

I have paired my Matter devices via my HomePod. That is essentially my border router. Recently, when I changed the frequency bands in my Imada access points, certain devices went offline afterwards. This also happened randomly sometimes.

According to Gemini, there are now 2 networks running simultaneously; it detected this because I had downloaded the Eve Energy app.

I also see a different number in Homey under MyHome. Are these two networks then, and why is there nothing behind my door locks, for example?

The way I pair the devices now is first via Apple Home and then sharing the Matter code in Homey and connecting the device via Homey, or should that be connecting via iOS?

See screenshot for my Matter network. Can you deduce from that whether they are really all running via the Apple network or both?

And below is the text file from Eve Energy.

I’m at a loss right now

Hi Mark

As I mentioned in the other thread, I’m a beginner when it comes to Matter and Thread.
But I’ll share my personal opinion on your questions with you, as far as I can.

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>
> I also see a different number in Homey under MyHome. Are these two networks then,

I don’t see any different addresses or numbers. According to your screenshot, all your Thread devices are connected to the Thread network (77:4d:e2:f7:6e:de:4d:60). Or am I missing something?

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>
> and why is there nothing behind my door locks, for example?

I have no idea, but both devices still have the same Thread network address as the other devices.

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>
> The way I pair the devices now is first via Apple Home and then sharing the Matter code in Homey and connecting the device via Homey, or should that be connecting via iOS?

I’d also like an answer to that question.

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>

In my opinion, all your devices are connected to the Apple Thread network via your HomePod, named “MyHome936948183”.

Could you please convert this text to “Preformatted Text”? Then the text won’t take up as much space. Thanks!

That’s what I know so far, at least I think so:
When I add a Thread device with my iPhone and select “Connect via Homey,” it connects (via BT of the iPhone) directly to my Homey. I think that’s a given.

When I add a Thread device with my iPhone and select “Connect via iOS,” it connects (via BT of the iPhone) directly to? I don’t know it exactly. But I also think it’s connected to my Homey Pro, since the same Thread network address and the name of my Homey are listed under [Developer Tools → Matter](https://tools.developer.homey.app/tools/matter).
However, there is a difference. If you click the three dots at the end of the row and then click “Manage Fabrics,” two Fabrics will be displayed for devices added via iOS, while only one Fabric will be displayed if you added the device using “Connect via Homey.”

This IKEA GRILLPLATS was added via iPhone using Homey:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/4/6/4672b227dfea65f2f5bb7fe7268ed0cf8434dd1e.png)

This IKEA GRILLPLATS was added via iPhone using iOS:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/1/d/1d15e9abb7bec807632ba8a4929d5ede40b52efe.png)

Both IKEA GRILLPLATS are connected to my Homey Pro, as shown in the overview.

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/8/d/8df0b28d51e80dcc063e14f8c5f3691b4ed20556.png)

Previously, I had paired an IKEA GRILLPLATS first with my Apple HomePod mini and then with my Homey Pro. After that, the name of my HomePod mini appeared in the overview. Also, this IKEA Grillplats even came with 3 fabrics, but I have no idea why.

Thank you for answering @DirkG

But what is the best way to add using thread radio homey or apple HomePod ?

Can I also use 2 separate thread networks ?

So my locks using apple for home key that’s why using HomePod

So can I add al other devices to homey ? Or is that going to cause interference?

To be honest, I can’t answer that question.
But I’ve already read a few posts saying that using Zigbee and Thread devices at the same time with a Homey Pro/min can cause problems, since both of these wireless technologies are handled by a single chip. Other manufacturers have apparently done the same, but newer platforms use one chip for Zigbee and another for Thread.
Based on this information, it should theoretically be better to use Thread devices together with an Apple HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV if you also have Zigbee devices connected to Homey at the same time.

Currently, I have 11 Zigbee devices and only 4 Thread devices in use, and I haven’t encountered any problems so far. But of course, it’s possible that the number of devices also plays a role. Another 56 Zigbee devices are currently connected via Home Assistant and Zigbee 2 MQTT. However, I plan to reconnect all of my Zigbee devices directly to my Homey Pro. Maybe that will cause problems; we’ll have to wait and see.

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>
> Can I also use 2 separate thread networks ?

There are mixed reviews on this in the other thread. A few users have reported issues, but I haven’t encountered any. However, I’ve only been using a handful of Thread devices so far.

> [@Mariomark1541](#):
>
> So can I add al other devices to homey ? Or is that going to cause interference?

I think I’ve already answered those questions.
So if you want to avoid any potential issues from the start, you should pair all your Thread devices with your Apple HomePod. At least, that’s my personal opinion and suggestion.

But maybe you should contact Athom Support and ask them the same questions. It would be interesting to hear what the experts have to say.

With “on app available” do you mean Apple Home app?
I don’t know if the home Wi-Fi network can generally cause problems or interference.

You might want to contact Athom support about these issues.

Hi Mark,

maybe i can answer your question, currently the best and stable solution to built a Thread Network is to tech all devices directly too Homey! Not first over iOS / apple thread-matter and then over multi admin forwoard the device to homey. This procedure caused huge troubles in my thread network and i work weeks to come stable again…

Since i teached all devices directly into homey my thread network works stable…today i buyed some IKEA Devices…well the Grillplats did not work directly with homey, i must go the way over iOS but not via multi admin…this means i installed the ikea app on my homey pro, further i add a device over the app, and at the point where you can say “over Homey or iOS” i select iOS…this works immediately! Well after this i delete in the apple keychain the matter key and that’s it, the device itself never pop up in apple home! The Door Sensor Myggbett works directly via Homey no workaround over iOS necessary and also no Ikea Hub or anything else!

Both devices working now over thread-matter network…

Picture after add the device via iphone using iOS and delete the matter key out of the apple key chain…

In this thread you can read many important results and recommendation about thread-matter! good Luck!

> delete the matter key out of the apple key chain…

Why are you deleting the Matter key from the iPhone’s keychain?
The Matter device is connected to the Homey Thread network even with an existing iOS Matter key. At least, that’s how it appears in [Developer Tools → Matter](https://tools.developer.homey.app/tools/matter).

This is an IKEA GRILLPLATS that was added via “Connect via Homey”:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/3/7/378a7ab4c33abe687dc8b676a7f1146c04694c94.png)

And this is an IKEA MYGBETT that was added via “Connect via iOS”:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/d/8/d84f87fadd5c66c8dff862c1fc76d0c755f7fb08.png)

And the overview shows that both devices are connected to Homey’s Thread network:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/0/1/01cdcda1a033ba75e244d88214bef768413302c6.png)

So why remove the iOS Matter key? Until now, I haven’t noticed any problems even when I don’t delete the iOS Matter key.
Could you possibly explain that in a little more detail? I didn’t quite understand the part about “Multi Admin.”.

Hi,

i cant explain to 100% in detail what is going on in the background when you have multible boarder router from different brands in different thread networks…basically all should work together but i made, stand now, an other experience…for example, if i lost on of the devices maybe of bad signal or whatever, this should basically not the big thing because one of the best benefits of the thread system is the “self healing function”…in my case it was exactly different because in my case the system break down and the devices did not find back into the thread network only a reboot of my homey pro could solve the problem…

After 3 weeks with support from athom side i decide to reset all devices because my goal was to have all in one and only same thread network where i manage all devices…since i have done this my thread network is stable, so for me it looks like the boarder routers which should basically work together dont do this properly, why i cant say exactly, maybe different matter version, thread version, handshake problem, leader problem…i dont know!

The matter key i removed because i saw after all devices was in homey thread and i unplug a apple device for example a home pod that it have still influence of devices in the thread network, so i searched why and i found into the keychain of apple all devices which i had already removed from apple home…

Regarding multi-admin, i had a lot of eve devices which working close with apple, they was already in apple home and i decide to bring them easy via multi admin to homey, activate the paring mode, get a new matter code and teach with this code the devices into homey…

At the end…all my experience is not a master plan to solve or prevent thread - matter problems even it should not be a how to do, i only want to share my experience maybe there is something which could help someone…but i had during my troubleshooting other guys around me who made the same experience…

Hello,

just update regarding the IKEA Grillplats Smart Plugs, pairing directly into Homey thread network since Matter Update v1.5 from Homey possible! Before you must go the pairing process over iOS, now you can pair them directly on homey, i have reset all my plugs and teach them new directly on Homey - works great now!
