I have a slightly strange problem. I have a Homey 2023 with an ethernet adapter that I want to use, for example, Smart Prescence, but it does not work with my ethernet devices on the same subnet. I have also tried to install both Ping Monitor and Net Scan, but neither is able to ping wired devices on the same network as Homey. I can ping the same devices that Homey cannot, both via 2 different PCs, a mobile phone and from the router. These wired devices are everything from PCs, TVs and Home Cinema Receivers.

And let me add - 4 of these devices that Homey can’t ping are devices that are listed as devices in Homey. And there are many other devices too, both wifi and ethernet, but I can ping them from Homey.

Is the ethernetport of the switch that you use (where your homey ethernet adapter is attached to) isolated?
can you try another port?
i dont know what kind of switch/router you have, but the IGMP Snooping setting might cause the problem.

just some thoughts

Ping Monitor and NetScan don’t use the ping command, that is why the respons is different. They use different methods.

1. Homey does not support (ICMP) ping
2. Applications normally use different methods to detect devices, like MDNS or requesting an network adres from the user.

So the answer is no.

**ChatGPT says:**
_ICMP ping isn’t supported mainly because Homey’s app/Flow environment is deliberately sandboxed and doesn’t expose low-level network functions such as raw ICMP sockets._

_In practice:_

_- ICMP requires low-level network access that ordinary Homey apps don’t get._
_- Homey apps run in a **restricted environment** for security and stability._
_- Homey generally expects integrations to use HTTP, TCP/UDP, WebSockets, or device-specific APIs rather than raw network protocols._
_- A true `ping` also typically requires OS-level socket capabilities that aren’t available to a normal Homey app._

_If your goal is “detect whether a device is online”, there are workarounds—for example, checking an HTTP endpoint, opening a TCP connection to a known port, or using another device/service to perform the ping and report the result to Homey._

No to ethernetadapter is isolated. Have a Asus AX1000 router with Asus Merlin firmware. Testet without ethernet, just wifi. Turned off IGMP Snooping. Still not able to get any response from ethernet devices through Net Stat and Ping Monitor.

Okay, but this doesn’t really answer my original question. Why can’t I get contact via Net Stat, Ping Monitor and Smart Presence when I try to reach ethernet devices. It is perfectly possible to ping (ICMP) the devices via “everything” else, but “pinging” from e.g. Net Stat is not possible, only the devices are not available.

Well, I perfectly answered your question, because different tools use different methods and different technologies and you get different results. So there is no ping problem.
If devices don’t connect to Homey, you better ask in the thread of the app you are using connect the device to Homey.

> Well, I perfectly answered your question…"

Well, you answered what you think is a perfect answer. But please find another thread and some one else to do youre quarreling with.

I was looking for solutions, not what Homey can and can’t do. I guess you understood very well what I meant when I wrote ping. The point, which you probably also understood, was that Net Stat and Ping Monitor (yes, they call their app PING), do not get answers from certain devices.

The reason I am asking here was if there was a more general problem, not a specific one since neither Net Stat, Ping Monitor nor Smart Prescense get answers from exactly the same devices. But unfortunately I get quarrellers sneaking into the thread and just making noise, no concrete suggestions ala Niels\_Hubregtse’s.

But it is not the Unix ping app, that is what I am trying to tell. Just contact the developer of Ping Monitor.

And I have tried to explain that the problem is not specifically Ping Monitor, but also Net Stat and Smart Prescense. All 3 do not respond with “ping” to ethernet devices, only wi-fi devices. Therefore the problem is a more general one and probably lies elsewhere.

The same is true for Net Stat and Smart Presence. From a distance I cannot analyse your network, or estimate your network knowledge. If you suspect there is general network problem, just start describing your network.

Did you test netstat setup first the router/gateway IP adress and the set DNS servers of your Homey Ethernet IP connection configuration??

Because at least this should be reachable with it if not a (firewall) setting is not interfering it for the whole network.

Is there any multicast (firewall) setting in your router/switch ?

Are you on the same VLAN and/or IP-range and/ir sub-net with Homey as the devices you want to ping ?

I made a special firewall rule first certain deice IP’s on my network that allows to reach everything on my whole network and also all devices on my different VLANS/sub-nets /Ip-ranges etc. To ensure My Homey can connect & talk to every device. And all devices can only connect to homey as an respond/already established connection. Same fir some other devices like my iPhone and my other smarthome hubs.
