FYI, I have created a Node-RED contrib library to allow direct integration with Homey from within Node-RED flows.
It uses the standard homey-api calls.

It currenty supports:

- reading / writing device capabilites from within Node-RED
- listening to device capability changes in Node-RED
- reading/ writing logic variable values fron winth Node-RED

see [node-red-homey (node) - Node-RED](https://flows.nodered.org/node/@evervondel/node-red-homey) for more info

Ooh, that’s great stuff. I already gave up on this ever happening.

I’ll give this a try tonight, thank you!

Seems to be working great, maybe in a future version you can include a dropdown list with the different capabilities?

And while on that subject, do you know how to get the data from a dummy “advanced capabilities” device? I thought measure\_temperature would work but it does not…

Maybe if possible a new node that shows the capabilites of the selected device (not sure if thats possible though)

-=edit=-

Using the “homey-device-listen” seems to work but can be tricky since it only triggers if there is a change. The advanced capabilities device i’m looking for had the following ID : measure\_devicecapabilities\_number-custom\_26.number1

FYI, an easy way to find the exact capability id’s for a device is via the devices on the homey developer site.

Thank you for the development of the Homey integration — I really appreciate it. Could you please let me know whether any broader documentation is available, and if so, where I can find the logs? I’m having trouble using a node: I end up with an error saying the device cannot be found, and I’m using a local connection and the local API.

Hi,

you should use the device name instead of the id.

Thank you for the quick response! Using the device name instead of the ID works perfectly. That was my mistake — I should have tried that right away.

Hi, first of all thanx, great work, I’ve been using it for a while…but it seems to me that the homey device listen does not generate an output on capability change (anymore?). I watch my LG ACs and the device read is working fine, but of course delayed since it needs to be injected, but the listener should generate an output on capability change, right? In my case it does not…

Hi Michael,

the standard homey subscription api is being used. Please double check whether you are subscribing to the correct capabilities. for some devices these have different naming.

The easiest way to find out is via the developer tools: [https://tools.developer.homey.app/tools/devices](https://tools.developer.homey.app/tools/devices)

regards,
Erwin

Hi Erwin, must be I guess, since the device read is working fine…and I’m using the same capability see below. I belive it was working actually till yesterday but not sure…

Hi Erwin, did some further testing on other devices/capabilities. “homey-device-listen” node does not give out anything on any device on capability change versus “homey-device-read” works as expected on the same capabilities.Node-Red is on Version 5.0.0, Homey pro mini is on Version 13.4.0. Connection is local (everything wired to Lan).

Good news, after restarting Homey pro mini (needed to do a local backup anyway) and restarting Node-Red “homey listener” node is working again, don’t ask me why…
