Saw a comment ( not here) from the developer that the latest update ‘will be defective in 1.5 weeks from now’, so i guess athom had blocked him and did restore a previous version without the boobytrap in it. ---

Hypothetically: say that the previous version contains a bug that, in certain cases, could crash your Homey. Now that Athom has restored the app to that version, are they assuming ownership of the app? Are they going to fix that bug? And as already pointed out, this situation shines a big light on the “app verification” process. ---

it depends on the terms and conditions. but if the restore action had been done to prevent malware or other destructive software, it might be legit i think that Athom should build on the relationships with the developers who do a lot of good work for free. what is homey without the community. you can see this with the new homey mini, the community apps are still available on that platform, so that must be important for them ---

Let me clarify what happened, before this goes out of hand and everyone keeps speculating 🙂 @Menno_van_Hout requested that his apps be removed from the Homey App Store. While still in talks with employees from Athom, who were very understanding, but also noticed that his main reason was to force people to use his alternative app store, Athom offered to find alternative developers to take over his apps, as we usually do. Menno did not seem to have an interest in that. Then Menno pushed an update that sabotaged his own apps, disabling existing functionality and spamming the Homey’s timeline. He bypassed review because we have an expedited review process for apps where only code has changed. This is meant for small bug fixes, and obviously not for malicious actions like these. He should have mentioned this in the changelog. Once we found out he had done this, we have reverted his apps to the previous working versions. His developer account is now restricted, which means he can still update the apps, but without expedited reviews. Every update will have to be reviewed by an Athom employee. His account on the Homey Community Forum is now banned, to prevent trolling and spreading negativity. His Homey account is still functional. We never ban those, because it would prevent access to a customer’s Homey. Additionally, we have given Menno access to the Web API for his project ‘HDashboards’ some time ago. This was based on a mutual trust relationship, instead of a business contract as we usually do. Now that this trust has been broken, we have limited his Web API access to existing users only, which means HDashboards cannot be accessed by customers who have not done this before. I have offered Menno the option to reply with a proposal where his access will be restored for new customers, based on a business agreement. Thus far I have not received a reply on that. Please understand that his project thus far has cost us a lot of cloud usage, while he gets paid. Before all this, we were happy to accommodate him because it benefits both his and Homey customers, but with a broken trust relation, we cannot continue this sponsorship. As for his time at Athom, while he says “I cannot comment about that”, nothing bad has happened that influenced this in any way, as far as I know. He worked at Athom for a few months just fine, did good work, but then decided he wanted to become an entrepreneur. We wished him all the best. I will now close this topic to prevent further negativity and truly hope it’s all clear now! ---
