So Homey misidentifies an Aqara device as being from IKEA, and that’s Aqara’s fault? 🤔

It sounds more like a fundamental issue with how Homey deals with IKEA and/or Aqara devices. I know that for Aqara, they had to implement certain changes deep in the Zigbee driver, and it wouldn’t surprise me of those changes are somehow causing a lot of these issues.

Well, I would have attributed the error more to the fact that Aqara does not disclose its data, forcing other developers to reverse-engineer it to find out how the parts actually work. This almost inevitably leads to errors, which could probably have been avoided with proper documentation.
If Aqara hadn’t been so idiosyncratic, the bug would probably never have occurred.

Whoever is responsible for it, the bug is absolutely unacceptable in a smart home (especially if it has existed for so long).

If this inevitably leads to errors, Homey shouldn’t have offered an app for it 😎

Besides that, @Peter_Kawa has experience with these devices both with Homey and with ~~better~~ other Zigbee implementations, and [came to the conclusion](https://community.homey.app/t/ikea-door-sensor-automatically-controls-nearest-device/129572/16) that this issue seems to be affecting Homey’s much more, which suggests it’s a Homey issue.

It’s a big red flag that you got that particular error with trying to re-pair an Aqara device, and one that Athom should take a closer look at.

As mentioned earlier, this issue is on our radar. Aqara, IKEA, and we at Athom are all aware of it and are looking into what is causing this issue.

It has now been six months since this thread was started. It would therefore be really appropriate to inform Homey customers about the progress of this bug fix! This matter is really extremely unpleasant, and I am slowly starting to think about selling all this Homey/IKEA/Aqara stuff.

Please be so kind as to let us know what the current status is!

Thank you!

There are no major updates since my last message. It remains a known issue related to the Zigbee/Thread chip we use, specifically when combined with IKEA and Aqara devices. We’re not the only platform affected by this, but unfortunately, a solution has yet to be found.

@Doekse OK, thank you very much! Even if the message isn’t particularly helpful for many customers in this situation, at least it’s a clear status message (which is extremely important!).

Are there currently any concrete indications as to where the error might lie or which device is responsible for it?

After more than four months, I thought I’d check again to see if this serious Homey bug has been fixed. Is there any news that would restore confidence in the Homey and Aqara brands, or is this just the way it is?

It is truly unfortunate that it has now become clear that Homey is not a reliable manufacturer of smart home components. Not only has the error reported here existed for over a year, but no one seems to feel responsible for fixing it, leaving paying consumers out in the cold.

It would be helpful if the source code were open so that developers who consider it important to fix such fundamental issues could take a look, but unfortunately that is not the case.

I think my next investments will be far, far away from Homey, Aqara, and Ikea, because this approach is simply unacceptable.

Actually I moved away from Homey to Home assistant (far more options, and better device support).

But - also HA had the same issue - or better said - issue is on AQARA side - H1 (with neutral) with old FW causes the issue.

I bought camera doorbel Aqara G410 - which is also ZigbeeHub - pair switches one-by-one, update FW and re-pair it back to HA.

Issues disappeared.

Oh, thank you for this tip! Home Assistant looks very good. If it works better than Homey, then it’s worth considering.

You’re saying that upgrading the Aqara firmware will fix the problem? Am I understanding that correctly?

If so, then I wonder why no one at Homey came up with this idea. Of course, I run the individual Aqara and IKEA components without the respective manufacturer hubs, as Homey suggested to me from the outset that I only need Homey Pro to manage my smart home.

Thank you so much for your constant efforts to keep the community updated on problem-solving!
It’s great to know that there’s always someone at Homey looking out for users and getting the technical issues under control!

But seriously, the solution turned out to be quite simple in the end:

**I just got rid of all that junk from IKEA and Aqara and replaced it with a solid, standalone system.**

Homey now plays a supporting role, and if it causes problems again, it’ll be out the door too.

Never again Aqara/IKEA! Thanks!

I did some reading on the Zigbee2MQTT side. It looks like both IKEA and Aqara devices can become part of Zigbee Group 0 and start acting on each other’s commands.

Zigbee2MQTT now automatically removes Aqara devices from Group 0 during pairing, which should prevent that specific issue going forward. However, that only addresses part of the problem. Some other Aqara devices, such as the H1, appear to have a firmware bug where they start responding to IKEA devices. From what I can tell, that may only be resolved through a firmware update from Aqara.

I’ll discuss this with @TedTolboom and the Aqara team to see if they have any thoughts.

Did you know that IKEA smart plugs and lights can be connected to many different Zigbee bridges (f.e. Hue, Innr, Tuya, eWeLink/Sonoff ZBBridge) and can then be added using the Homey app for that brand? This way you might be able to re-use your Ikea smart plugs and lights and connect them to Homey via a bridge, since that Zigbee network is separate from Homey’s
