Hi there!

I’ve been using Homey Pro for a few years and it’s been working well. However I recently stumbled upon an issue where I bought a power socket from “Eve” that you supposedly can use to toggle the socket on/off and also monitor its power consumption.

Turns out that the power consumption feature is only possible after a device firmware update has been applied. But unfortunately Homey Pro can’t be used to update device firmware for Matter devices, so I guess the only way is to use something else like Apple Homekit or Google Home to perform the actual upgrade. I currently don’t have any of those, and I don’t really want to either if I’m honest becuase it kinda defeats one important purpose with Homey (having a single hub that works with multiple protocols, multiple vendors and multiple device types).

There is a share matter device option in Homey, and I was wondering if that would allow you to add the device that needs an upgrade to Google Home, and maybe even leave it in a shared state to make sure it keeps the most recent firmware version over time.

- Do you think Homey will support firmware updates for matter devices in the future?
- How do you guys handle situations like these? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

> Hi Dijker Your statement about Matter OTA is not entirely correct. It is true that you cannot perform a firmware update using the resources on the board. However, if you have paired a Matter device, you can connect it to the iOS Home app via “Advanced Settings \> Share Matter Device,” for example. Firmware updates will now be downloaded automatically during operation. (Tested with my Eve motion sensor during the FW update from v3.2.0 to 3.2.1) BDW: I pointed this workaround out to Athom some …

Sure, I should’ve done a bit more research before posting. But I’m still curious if people use the Google ecosystem in a similar way. And ultimately speculate a little bit whether Homey will support matter firmware updates in the future, or not. Having two hubs is suboptimal.

I wonder if it is possible to combine Homey Pro with a Google TV Streamer to get similar functionality as combining it with Apple Homekit. It sounds like it should work but it is not very tempting to purchase one more device just to find out.

Have you tried it?

No one can tell you that.

No, I haven’t tried it because I don’t have a Google hub.

Just in case anybody also finds this via google. In the most recent homey podcast it was “announced” that homey will soon (early 2026) support updating matter device firmwares.

For people coming via google again. The preview version of the mobile app (9.10.0) in combination with the latest homey version (13.2.1) now allows you to update device firmware. Be aware that especially ikea battery powered devices restart multiple times during the update process and which seems to abort the update process because of it. if you keep trying again and again it will get a bit further every time and work eventually though.

It was actually released yesterday as stable, at least on iOS 😀.

I have several Aqara P2 matter-over-thread door sensors connected directly to Homey. Some shipped with firmware 1.0.1.1, some with 1.0.0.0. With the latest actual firmware being 1.0.2.0. Either of those are recognized as up-to-date when I do an update check in Homey. How can I update these to the actual last version?

If you check the matter registry you see that there really is a version 1.0.1.1 and 1.0.2.0

```auto
GET https://on.dcl.csa-iot.org/dcl/model/versions/4447/8194
{"modelVersions":{"vid":4447,"pid":8194,"softwareVersions":[1000,1011,1020],"schemaVersion":0}}
```

But if you check the details then both of them have `softwareVersionValid: false` set.

[https://on.dcl.csa-iot.org/dcl/model/versions/4447/8194/1011](https://on.dcl.csa-iot.org/dcl/model/versions/4447/8194/1011)

[https://on.dcl.csa-iot.org/dcl/model/versions/4447/8194/1020](https://on.dcl.csa-iot.org/dcl/model/versions/4447/8194/1020)

Which means they got disabled by Aqara or they were never certified for one reason or another and you should probably contact their support if this is a mistake.
