I have been using Homey SHS for a few months now and i love it. It is fast, smooth and always runs. And works on the hardware i already own and use.

last week i bought an ikea temprature and moisture sensor. Witch in hindsight works via matter on thread. I have not yet een wireless protocol in my setup, as i use the hue bridge for lighting. And smart plugs on WiFi and Matter via WiFi.

I want to setup one wireless home automation protocol and since more and more devices support matter and thread i want to go in this direction.

Does anyone have good experiences with a certain model thread border routers that i can use with homey?

I don’t want to bu an apple tv or homey mini or pro to use as thread border router.

I have been looking at the aqare m100 hub, but will this be compatilbe?

I have an Aqara M3 hub and it it absolutely brilliant 👌

For smart home tech you can’t go wrong with Aqara, I haven’t had a bad experience with any of their products, and I have many. Just make sure you read the specs before buying, as I know their different hubs have different numbers of devices that they can support for Thread and Zigbee. Also remember that Matter over WiFi devices all connect directly to your WiFi access point. But Matter over Thread works differently, in that it is a mesh network, so you need to make sure as you get more devices, that you have plenty of permanently powered mains Thread devices. They act as the mesh network’s routers. While the sleepy battery powered devices are end nodes only.

For example, smart plugs and bulbs need permanent mains on power to keep the mesh alive (switching them on and off only via their smart features) to be there and ready when a battery powered contact sensor or button is activated.

I hope this helps, and have fun automating

Thanks for your extensive reply. I will look at the aqara hub and order one.

I really want to keep the self hosted server as it runs so smooth so i accept the hassle that sometimes comes with jt
