Uses either signal over TCP/IP i.e. WiFi to Hub or X10 signalling over power lines. Clearly Homey itself does not support X10 but it could support IP over WiFi to Insteon Hub.

Yes, I believe different versions of Insteon Hub have over time used different APIs but I believe the current hubs use a REST based API.

Devices have replaced light wall switches so cannot be removed, happy to probe\test as required.

Explanation

This light switch was produced in response to the issue that turning off a physical light switch kills the power to the Yeelight ceiling smart light making it inoperable, it provides a hidden power switch (for power on reset) and replicates the provided remote controls functions via bluetooth. (On\Off, Moon mode, dim, color temp change). The device pairs to the light(s) exactly as the hand remote does so protocol may be identical.

The valve, sensors and hub communicate via Zigbee. The valve and sensors being Zigbee can be directly connected to any Zigbee hub e.g. Smartthings, Wink, Hubitat without going via the LeakSmart hub.

It does not appear so as of yet. See the comment about them using standard Zigbee.
It will I suspect not help but several of the other smart hub platforms have their apps for managing LeakSmart on github. I strongly suspect these all communicate directly via Zigbee rather than the hub.

Note: Whilst there seems to be an app for linking to a DSC panel fitted with the Konnected! module that approach is limited to wired only sensors and would seem to also preclude having the panel monitored by a security company. The Envisalink supports all supports sensors including wireless. It basically acts as a serial to ethernet convertor and leaves the rest of the panel untouched and hence still monitor-able. I would therefore prefer the Envisalink approach.
