Not sure how many subscriptions you had 🤔, but the annual cloud backup subscription for up to 3 Homeys, when purchased directly from Athom, is 10 euro 😊.

You are correct… it’s 99 cents per month or 10 euro per year, my bad 🙂

(Corrected my message)

Conclusion remains the same though.

for me the HP is powerful enough but lacks RAM so i am using SHS as the main Brian and the HP was the brain now i got a the bridge. but i also think it should be All hubs in one “home” should be one mesh

Ye and Id agree with you maybe in a few months/a year when they have gone full into development - i know this is early says.

Probably Then for the cost of a HP26 compared to a small nas or RPi set up its a no brainer to not buy the HP hubbut it was released almost too quickly.
Look how many votes there have been for a migration tool. That should have been there in the wings ready to go.

Smarthome should be simple - the HP20203/26 gives that. Its easy to pick up and get going.

As people get more into it and inevitably homes get smarter and more devices come on board, people will naturally want to expand. They could buy a cheap Raspberry pi and expand that way, no major expense but the benefit of SHS and an extra “brain”

If all worked in one mesh its just super easy. having to split and migrate stuff as it currently stands is a pain. Also my HP23 is only 12 months old, yes i can sell it but why should i have to. It works well just lacks the ram. And its full of the hardware i need. I have a bridge to extend that already over my house, i now need another to make my SHS work too!

It should all just merge into one home, all bridging to each other. Allows for better signal coverage and removes the need to re add and re build everything

All personal opinion i guess

Hi all,

also making up my mind, considering a setup with shs with pro 2019 or shs with bridge. My usecase is zigbee and rf(433) on the pro/bridge, all the rest on the shs (to solve memory constraints)

If I understood correctly from the documentation, the bridge setup will fail to work when internet is not available while the setup with the homey pro will keep on working.

Is that understanding correct? This will (at least for me) be a reason to keep the pro 2019 as part of my setup.

Surely your still down?. HP was £399 so its a loss immediately, then the licence to buy the SHS for life, then a bridge! Then however much your hardware was for the SHS

Athom have not got us here!

The point of the mesh is that we can use the HP and existing bridges in one set up. All new devices can be added to the SHS and all flows, devices and everything is just on one place. No need for Homey Link, no need to migrate flows. Its just there, ready to go.
However i cant see Athom ever considering the mesh idea. I doubt they read much on here!
So i will have to bite the bullet and get the SHS licence. Running shs on Qnap at mo but thats a busy NAS so ill have to shell out for a mini PC or NAS to run SHS and HA in one dedicated place

Well no, not in your case… if you need to buy a server to host shs that totally defeats the purpose.. you are better of with a homey pro.

But I allready have a home server running for a lot of other stuff so that part is free.. that leaves
License and bridge which together is cheaper then a homey pro.

@J273

Not exactly.
The main issue: the Bridge needs internet to reach the Athom cloud when it re-starts, usually caused by power outages.

So this is the actual risk:
Internet goes down \>
Homey SHS (life license) and bridge as satellite aren’t bothered, everything continues as usual \>
Bridge suffers from power loss \> all local radios are gone, which is logical \>
Bridge gets powered up again \> all local radios are still gone UNTIL internet connection is restored.

The chance for this problem to occur is determined by local circumstances.
At my place (luckily) internet or power outages are very rare atm.

It’s a user forum, so officially they don’t read your stories 😉
Contact homey.app/support to reach Athom.

My ‘server’ is not everyone’s cup of tea: I run H.A. and SHS on a old used €50 HP mini pc.
It’s easy to replace in case it breaks down (a €399 Pro can break down as well).

I would say that is easy to fix with a flow..

Just add internet as well as the bridge in advanced presence and trigger a bridge reboot when bridge is live and internet is not..

Not sure if the bridge has a possibility to have it reboot but if not put a plug behind it…

Cheaper yes, but my understanding is that it’s also comparatively lacking especially in the Zigbee department. Isn’t it like max 15 Zigbee devices or so on the bridge? If they made an updated edition of the bridge as well, with improved hardware, it’s a different story. But without that, and without the possibility of putting the pro in some sort of satellite mode, at least I am very hesitant in going for SHS.

I don’t understand, how would that help? The problem seems to be that if the bridge reboots while the internet is gone, it stops working until the internet is back again.

Abe said so when I asked 🤷‍♂️ but unfortunately not the _HOW_
I presume he tells Athom facts 🫣😅

(I know, Athom sells “local only” for physical Homeys as well)

A life time license doesn’t (need to) get checked after validating **once** , but this is an assumption on my end;
AFAIK the license exists in your account, not on a Homey SHS instance.

Is it a bit like that, Abe? @Doekse

And how does it work when Athom (cloud) is gone?

that can be tested by blocking all outbound traffic from shs towards internet to see what happens

i have a mikrotik firewall between shs and inet, so might test that.

@kvolden @Welshsmarthome
For these assumptions and the “I heard this and that”:
The best source for this kind of information is the knowledge base imho.
The bridge can connect with max. 15 children _ **directly** _; when these are zigbee routers, you can _ **expand** _ the mesh with additional routers, and start adding your end-devices, until the performance drops or random errors occur. Then you’ve reached the limit.
When the zigbee and wifi 2.4GHz channels are tuned, and when there’s little or low wifi signal from close neighbours, using more than the advised maximum of 35-40 devices should be possible.
