Hi all,

Homey Pro 2023, Version 13.0.0

Since tonight at 1:04 a.m., my Homey Pro 2023 is constantly restarting.

First it was between 1:04 a.m. to 1:36 a.m., then everything was normal. But now it started again 25 minutes ago, this was done every minute!

I have not installed any new apps or added any new devices or flowy since yesterday.

What can I do?

Have you tried pulling the plug for 10 minutes?

> PTP [image] A lot of questions are asked about PTP. In this post a short explanation about PTP. What does PTP mean? PTP means Pull The plug. Make sure the power is off so not connected anymore. Pull the plug out of her! Now don’t put it back in too soon. Some say a few seconds is enough but experiance is learning that we need to power her down for at least 10 minutes. On the forums and on Slack u can see a lot of “11.2 minutes” power down. This ofcourse is a joke. The minimum of 10 minutes…

I’d install the software update via USB tool to see if that fixes it.
Next I would restore a backup from before the issues occurred.

Is it hotter than usual? Overheating can cause infinite restarts.

I don’t know if that was really the reason, but when I disabled the “Apple TV & HomePod” app, the reboots stopped.

I rule out overheating:

I suspect that the app really was the cause; it uses up a lot of memory…

This is the (‘disk’)_storage_ overview, this doesn’t impact anything.
The memory overview is shown below this overview, probably called ‘Arbeitsspeicher’ in German.

I’ve noticed the same, also, when i restart that app my homey reboots. I think this is since it switched to python but unfortunately I have no time to look into it to make a proper report for Bas.

Yeah, I know, but since I disabled that app, the reboots have stopped. I also know that the app’s developer is rewriting it in Python.

I’ll keep an eye on it for a while; if the reboots start happening again, then it wasn’t because of that app…

I can’t check the RAM because the app is disabled. But I know from past experience that it uses quite a bit of RAM.

Do you think I should report this to Bas? Or should I wait until tomorrow and see if the reboots start happening again?

You can still view the insights of memory usage of apps

 ![Screenshot_20260318_204223_Vivaldi](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/d/2/d26e197bf375af9eebf099b5afefbf0f9e823a2c.jpeg)

From what I know apps get killed when the memory usage exceeds something around 150 or 180 MB, and/or when uses over x % CPU time.

Probably this Apple app found ways to get Homey on its knees 🤓

Well, I disabled the app and have no time to troubleshoot so I won’t unable the app until I have time. If you can disable it for 24 hours and it’s stable and next enable it and reboots start again I definitely advise to report it in the app’s topic.

I also had the Homey Pro rebooting constantly last sunday.

i was running the “Apple TV & Homepod” app and used the latest versions that Bas switched to python and i looks like switching off this app made Homey stable again.

I will test some more this weekend with his latest version and report to him if indeed it makes Homey reboot constantly again.

It’s only the Python version right? How is the production TypeScript version?

I’m aware that the Python version uses a lot of ram, and 99% of that is just the PyATV library and Python runtime. Not sure if I can improve it any further to be honest, but actively searching for solutions and improvements.

That said, it’s an experimental release for a reason, these things can happen. If you’re not comfortable with living on the edge, don’t.

I have a new observation. I think it’s tied to automatic updates of the app. I have a similar issue when I run the app during development and asked Athom about it.

Just released 1.6.17, so it could happen again, but maybe another thing that everyone having this issue could try is turning off automatic updates for a while and see how the app runs then.

Hi Bas,

No one is blaming you here; we were just trying to figure out what might be causing the issue. If I had been 100% sure that it was your app, I would have posted in the relevant thread.

But since others have now reported the same issue, and the problems stopped for everyone once the app was disabled, it must be the app’s fault.

Yes, for me it’s the Python version.

As I said, no one is blaming you, and I also know that this is a test version—in other words, I’m aware of the circumstances.
