Hello Homey Community!

I’m seeking beta testers for a new unofficial **Homey for Android Automotive** app that brings your Homey smart home directly to your vehicle’s dashboard!

**App Features:**

- Real-time control of your lights and locks from your car screen
- Seamlessly monitor device states
- Sync your Favorite Devices or choose specific devices via the Homey Companion App
- Support for multiple Homey hubs

Right now the app works only with lights and locks due to Google-imposed UI limitations for Android Automotive apps.

**Current Testing Status:**
Currently tested on: Volvo XC40 with Android Automotive 13

**How to Become a Beta Tester:**
To participate in the beta testing program, please **send me a private message** with:

1. Your email address
2. Your vehicle model and your Android Automotive version, if known

* * *

This thread is open for comments, suggestions, and feedback about the app.

This is an unofficial application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Athom B.V. (Homey).

Looking forward to your feedback and testing experience!

Simone

Thanks for doing the work man! This app would be absolutely fantastic if we could get quick actions on the home screen for our garages and gates. Does it seem doable?

Ciao @Tore_Th , can I ask what car you have and what version of AAOS this is? It’s very different from the one I have on my Volvo XC40.

It’s polestar 2, latest update. Not really sure of the specific android ver, but the general version of the car software is 5.0.10.

ciao @Tore_Th , I did some research, but it seems that on AAOS, quick actions are only available for Media, Phone, and Navigation apps. All other apps (including IoT apps like mine) have a general tab with no way to configure quick actions.

Hello. Trying out your app but I have a problem with my garage door. Actually it is not available in the app. I use a Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 as garage door opener.

The app (both the car version and the Homey companion app) only detects lights, locks, and **sockets/switches if they are linked to lights or locks** (referring to the “connected to” setting). The issue is that in the switch settings, Homey lets you select lights but not locks…

The best solution is **to create a virtual device** (I use the “Device Capabilities” app, which offers a high level of customization) with “garage door” class, and then use the virtual device’s flow triggers to activate the garage opening. This way, the virtual device will appear in the car app, and you can also use it for proximity alerts (e.g., when you approach home and the garage is closed, you get a notification in the car to open it; when you drive away and the garage is left open, you get a notification to close it). Once done, hide the actual switch so your Homey app remains uncluttered and free of duplicates.

Another, quicker solution is to go into the switch settings and specify that it is connected to a light. This makes it appear in the app so you can use it immediately, but since it isn’t classified as a lock, you won’t be able to open or close it directly from the notification.

I recommend the first solution—it’s the one I use for my own garage (though in my case, it’s a remote control rather than a standard switch).

Thanks for the hint. Thats what I have done and now it works fine.

I noticed something else with the temperature functionality. So basically the sensors that I removed from the Home climate are not shown, thats good, but I see some other temperature sensors that Homey from start did not consider as climate sensors, like oven temperature. In your app I can only say its indoor or outdoor, but this should be excluded by default or manually.

and oven temperature is excluded by homey climate by default or you had to remove it manual?

It’s excluded by default. Actually I doesn’t even show up in the climate section.
