I am looking for an 18A smart plug (Europe version).
That works with Homey Cloud.
So I can “flow” the hot water production.
If solar production \>4000W =\> turn on the water heater.

I have bought the Tapo P110 since it’s wifi based and the app should connect with Homey…
But apparently that fails!

So what other plugs exists that can take 18A and Homey Cloud (not the Pro version)

18A is going to be difficult, single phase sockets in Europe are almost always rated with a 16A max.

I am also open to a Smart Switch.
(allthough it’s a bit less user friendly).
But I can’t seem to find any that will work with Homey Cloud?
I am trying to help out some customers to improve their autoconsumption of the solar production.
And that’s why I wanted a solution with Homey Cloud (and Tapo, but that isn’t working)

Smart switches will probably have the same (16A) limitation. What kind of inverter is being used? Or perhaps there’s a smart meter that can be read (you won’t know the solar production per se, only how much is flowing back to the grid, if that’s how the system is set up).

Do you only need switching? Or also measuring?
If you do not need measuring, most zigbee plugs will be recognized even without an app.

In that case search google for “smart plug 20A zigbee” there seem to be enough choices

It’s a Growatt inverter…
I know it’s not going to be 100% correct.
But after some weeks of data I will be able to set the correct threshold value.
So that the customer has warm water while limiting the power import.

Most switches I found where also not suitable for WiFi/app control.

Measuring would be nice.
But most importantly is switching.
The ZigBee devices seem to need a Homey Bridge?
I was hoping to build a solution which only need the Homey app.

In theory I solved it with Homey Cloud app.
Growatt inverter which is connected through the app.
And then the Tapo WiFi plug.

But although they are listed, the connection/setup in Homey doesn’t work…

You’ll need to know the power/amperage of the hot water production. Is that really
the 4000W you mentioned? That’s pretty heavy.

This is a fairly new ‘Shelly wifi enabled’ power measuring relais, should handle 25A max. (25 \* 230V = 5750 Watts):

> **[Ogemray smarter Relaisschalter 25 A](https://www.shelly.com/de/products/ogemray-25a-smart-relay?srsltid=AfmBOop700RvapCaIybGL8w5KV2u7sVrX3j2FI64V4oyclphO8dUJB7q)**

The Shelly app claims it supports any Shelly cloud enabled device:

(AFAIK any Shelly wifi device has the option to have it cloud enabled).

Listed where exactly?

Other option would be to use a Relais capable of switching +20a and let a smart switch switch the relais on/off.

But you definitely miss measuring then…

Hello Peter,
The heater is 3000w.
But I have read that a lot of smartplugs fail after a few months if they need to switch high power devices.

So a bit more reserve wouldn’t be bad for longevity.

In the Homey Cloud the Tapo app and plugs are available.
So I thought it should work…
But guess again 😁

That’s always a good plan.
I would def go for an 18A, or better a 25A relais switch.

Try one of these. 40A. I used one to isolate my 3kW solar inverter. Works really good. The link is to an Australian site, but being Aeotec I’m sure they must have a european version.

> A Z-Wave on/off device that can switch powered electrical devices and appliances that draw up to 40 amps or 9600 Watts of power.

There might be an issue with the Tapo app for Homey not letting you add the P110. They only added support for it at the end of February. I just found out about this today because of your issue. I’ve got two versions of the Tapo - P100 without power metering and the P110, and I couldn’t use the P110 until today.

after the update I was able to at the P110.
And I got the first (very basic) flows running!
Now I need some time to learn how the consumption of the boiler looks like, and then we’ll start adding some more logic into it.

Shelly App does not recognises the Ogemray relay. I contacted the developer of the App and they say it will be added in the future. Meanwhile I created an App for it. See here: [Ogemray | Homey](https://homey.app/a/nl.xibel.ogemray/test/)

Someone might have to correct me here, but my understanding is that the issue you are describing (breaking smart plugs) is only applicable for controlling the on/off state of electrical motors (i.e compressor in a heat pump, …). Not heating elements, and also not while only running energy metering on electrical motors.
