Hi.
I was thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy tab A9 to use exclusively for Dashboards.
And I’m wondering if anyone who has this tablet could make a short video of the performance using dashboard on this?
Or at least a description would be nice.

The screen size I think is perfect for my use case. I want to mount it to the wall with a magnet so I can easily grab it and take it with me around the room/house.

Other tablets in the same price range and same screen size can be of interest as well.

I have a Chromebook tablet (Lenovo Duet 5) running the dashboard now, and it is just to slow to be of any practical use. And I don’t want to buy something new that turns out to be useless.

Also consider the A9+, this is the 11inch version. Homey dashboard runs very smooth with 4 colums.

The 128gb version of the A9+ has 8gb of ram instead of the standard 4gb with the 64gb version.

I know, but I want a smaller screen for portability. The A9 also comes with 8gb ram. I guess the performance should be fairly similar?

I have a smaller Tab (old S2 or so). You will only get 3 columns on a Tab9A. If that’s enough, then the tablet should run without any issues.

Three columns will be enough for it’s purpose. What’s important to me is that switching between dashboards, and loading widgets work snappy without noticeable delay.

I’m using the A8, and it works perfectly for both Homey and for Dashboards, and im currently using it to run everything from, through Dashboards. Its more than capable, so of you thinking of the A9, its more than enough for your request

In my experience, the standard widgets are faster because they run native in the app while app widgets are loaded as html page.

Thanks. This is the A9? Someone said that only 3 columns was possible, but clearly you have 4.
I see some loading time on the widgets when you switch between dashboards, but it’s way better than my Chromebook and it looks like it’s mostly the third party widgets that are lagging, and my guess is that this happens on even the fastest, most expensive tablets.

Sorry, A9+ 11" screen. It’s probably snappier with less columns.

Yes it’s a combination of both.
Homey does a lot of the processing, I’m sure the dash is (much more) snappier when I would use a Pro2023.
Also as I mentioned along with the YT vid, my Pro2019 is heavily used, and fully loaded with apps and flows.

The difference in app responsiveness was huge when I once used it with my empty factory resetted Pro2019.

I purchased an A9 just for the homey dashboard since it resides on my cooking island in the kitchen. It has 3 columns and works like a charm. With macro droid is activates the screen as soon as the kitchen zone is active (using a sonoff motion detector) and goes into sleeping mode after 10 mins inactivation. The performance is more than ok. I’m thinking of 3d printing a wall mount

I’ve explained at Youtube: I showed possibly the slowest scenario;
with a (not overloaded) Pro23 it probably will be a lot snappier.

Just to confirm 4/64 9+ is good enough as dedicated Homey wall mount? My 2 x A8 just started having screen issues. A9+ 8/128 is another $100. Happy to spend if required, but figured given just OS & Homey 4/64 should work well. A8 3/64 worked ok, occasionally sluggish.

Thanks

To update on this. Bought the A9 with 8gb ram. It works ok, but I think it is a bit to laggy. Then again. Even on my Samsung S25 Ultra phone, the dashboard is not perfect. So I guess there are some limitations in the app itself. I’m not gonna spend a thousand dollars+ on a tablet just for dashbord purposes, so it’s just gonna have to do for now.
