Or setup another Zigbee gateway with Zigbee2MQTT and MQTT and import your devices into Homey with the [Zigbee2MQTT Homey app](https://homey.app/en-gb/app/com.gruijter.zigbee2mqtt/Zigbee2MQTT/).
That way you can let Zigbee2MTT app handle device updates without any user interference.
Additional you get a very, very stable Zigbee network and great device support…

Does that app use the zigbee radio of the homey? I looked at Zibee2MQTT when it was listed above but the first thing that jumped out was the need for a zigbee radio for your PC or rasberry pi.

Yes, you need a Zigbee gateway like a Sonoff Zigbee dongle on a Raspberry Pi, PC or Docker container with Zigbee2MQTT.

I am arriving late to the party but I see that the situation has not changed one year later and it’s quite disappointing. Is it still on the roadmap? Any chance to see this in q1 2026?

I just watched the Homey Podcast on Youtube and they said they are working on firmware updates in 2026. They said that Matter device updates would come first, but that zigbee and zwave devices are on the roadmap.

They mentioned that they are trying to solve the problem of device manufacturers going out of business. They want a solution that still provides the latest update to the device even when the manufacturer goes under.
