# Device for monitoring laundry basket

In our house, we have placed the laundry basket in a storage room in the basement. We can throw the laundry into it via a chute from the bathroom on the floor above. From time to time, the laundry basket gets full and overflows, so I want to monitor it via Homey, which can send me a notification when the basket is full.
I imagine a solution with a weight sensor under the basket that reacts to weight. Then Homey can send me a notification when the weight exceeds a given weight that indicates a full basket. Does anyone know if such a product exists? Or other ways to solve it?

A pressure sensor might work although I don’t have a pressure sensor but if it has adjustment capability for how much pressure before it triggers that might do the trick. Also when they come down the shoot, is there a door at the bottom that opens? Thinking outside the box here, if you do have a door and you make it where it can’t close if the clothes pile gets to a certain height and use a contact sensor send you a message when door has not closed after a certain period of time, again just thinking outside the box.

I like the idea, but I don’t have a door. For now its just a hole in the ceiling in the basement where the clothes is falling all the way to the basket on the floor. So it is some place between 1,5 and 2 meters with free falling of clothes before they gets inside the basket.
I have been thinking about an infrared sensor like the ones in a garage, preventing the garagedoor of going down if there is something in its way. If the beam is not reflected back to the sensor because of something obstracting it, it sends an error to Homey. So if the sensor is placed at the top of the basket it could monitor when the clothes are at the top and obstracting the sensor.

There are sensors that can measure the distance between the laundry and the sensor. (Ultrasone) . Counting items is not an option?

It could be a solution. I’m guessing it works without lights on? And how do you get this connected to the Homey? What more devices is needed?
A counting item could also do the trick, but it’s not the best solution since a sweater takes up much more space than some socks 😅

For this one you need an esp32 or something like that but they might also be available with 0-10 volts. Together with a shelly or something.
Another solution, In elderly care we stick chips in clothing, scan in and scan out. Then you will immediately know whether you have enough for white or colored laundry. 🫣
