I’m fairly new to Homey and have only recently got my setup up and running. I’m still building out the system and adding more devices and automations. My Homey is a Homey Pro Mini.

I’m experiencing quite a noticeable delay when controlling devices through Homey, and I’m trying to figure out whether this is related to my setup or a more general issue.

One example is motion-controlled lighting. The motion sensor detects movement immediately – I can see its LED flash – but it can take around 5–10 seconds before the light actually turns on.

I’m also seeing similar delays with other devices and protocols. For example, I have an IKEA Matter button controlling a roller blind, and after pressing the button it can take several seconds before the blind starts moving.

Because this happens with different types of devices and not only Zigbee, I don’t think the problem is necessarily related to one particular sensor, device, Flow or protocol.

I’m trying to determine where the delay occurs:

- between the sensor/button and Homey

- in the Flow / Advanced Flow

- between Homey and the device being controlled

- or more generally in Homey itself / the communication path

Has anyone else experienced similar delays across different device types or protocols?

Is there a good way to log or measure exactly when Homey receives an event from a sensor/button and when the command to the controlled device is actually sent?

Any suggestions for troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

Homey itself isn’t slowing things down.
Especially when it’s a wifi sensor, that’s because of it takes a while for the sensor to wake up and restore its wifi connection.

To test if the sensor signal lags, or if the light responses slow, add (timeline) notifications to your flow:

1. When notification arrives during motion detection: light lags
2. When notification arrives when light turn on: sensor lags
3. When notification arrives somewhere in between: both sensor and light lag

You also most probably experience Zigbee / (Matter-over-)Thread interference and mesh issues: (Thread is very similar to zigbee)

> If you’re experiencing issues with your Zigbee network on Homey, here are advanced troubleshooting steps to help optimize performance and stability, especially in more complex environments: Power Supply Integrity A stable power supply is critical for Homey’s performance. An underpowered adapter can lead to instability in the Zigbee network. Always ensure you’re using a reliable adapter providing at least 2A. Power fluctuations can cause disconnections or communication failures, especially un…
