Hello,

Thank very much you for your time and your explanation. Very clear. I’ll use some ideas.

Hello, concerning your calculation flow. Is “Insight W I/E w/o EV” a number variable? And which value did you gave to this variable?

Thanks for your help!

The variable **Insight W I/E w/o EV** is indeed a variable number. I could translate this somewhat strange name as _‘average balance between the power entering and leaving the house, without taking into account the charging power of the electric vehicle’_. This number changes constantly depending on the amount of sunlight and the house’s power requirements.

If we put aside the fact that this is an average calculated every 70 seconds (first screenshot above), this number represents the residual power available to charge the electric vehicle. If, for example, the solar panels produce 3000W and the house consumes 500W (note: still without taking into account the possible charging of an electric vehicle), this variable will be 2500W, and it is therefore this number that is used in the main flow to control the charging station. Personally, I like to have a negative number when there is power available for charging, which is why in my calculation flow I used _‘House consumption’ - ‘Solar production’_, and not the other way around. These values are provided by the solar panel inverter, but if, for example, you have a Shelly 3EM sensor, you don’t even need to do this calculation. However, as this calculation must be done without taking into account the vehicle’s charge (otherwise the flow will not work properly), this is why my calculation is _((house consumption - car charging power) - solar production)_. The car charging power value is provided by the charging station.

When you tap / click @ screenshots (of flows), it shows higher res pictures, plus they’re downloadable.

I built my own charging flow, inspired by the first post in this thread, and I’d love some feedback on it.

In short: it charges the Tesla based on surplus solar power. Every minute it checks how much energy is being fed back to the grid, calculates the available amperage, and adjusts the Tesla’s charge current accordingly. It stops when there’s no surplus left. There’s also a manual mode that lets me set a target charge level on the fly.

The explanation notes in the screenshots are in Dutch, but hopefully the logic speaks for itself. Curious to hear what you think!

Looks good, nice to see and learn the different approaches to “surplus charging”.

This flow has a lot of similarities with the one I created.

> Surplus solar energy charging Only use the surplus of your solar energy to charge your EV. To minimise your energy returned to grid. Restrictions: EV’s generally require a minimum of 6A (1.4kW) to start charging Current adjustment is at 1A resolution so you will not always get 0 (1A = 220W ) The flow supports dynamic phase switching between 1 and 3 phases (Switching does require a Off+On of the Amina to be effective) Below is my flow (which is also usable for other chargers, with adaption…

I see you are using a “momentum” for charging. If that makes it too “jumpy” you can consider to “average” the measurements (you can check my post to see how). I have some devices (quooker) that cause short high peaks that I do not want to respond to…

Depending on the amount of panels you have you might need to add switching between 1 and 3 phase
