The old one, I assume.

Yes it can, Homey just doesn’t provide you with the option to change it.

Yes, the new model is coming out in January, but I don’t know if it will be compatible. You will probably need to update the application.

It seems to be going well; after 3 hours without any movement, this one triggers properly, unlike my Aqara ones that had disconnected after an hour. I continue to conduct tests to see if it remains connected after a night.

Good news, the sensor is still functioning after a night. I still need to test the new modules that are coming out in January.

Glad to hear your IKEA motion sensors work.

Do you still have the Aqara-sensors and have verify they still stop reporting/responding after 1-2 hours for you after upgrading to the newest stable release? I no longer have the issue so (at least for me?) the update seems to have resolved the issues I had for all previous firmware versions.

It’s been a week for some of the sensors and they work fine when testing them, and in the developer portal I see that they are usually not above 1 hours when “last seen” - here they would typically not get refreshed and once it was \>1 or 2 hours I knew they where gone and required to be re-paired.

No, I returned my 6 detectors before the update. I was too disgusted. Well, afterward, I don’t regret those from IKEA, considering their extremely low price compared to Aqara’s.

Hello, I’m back to provide a brief update on my Ikea Zigbee devices. The first motion detector from 2023 is still going strong, never losing its connection. Since the beginning of January, I’ve been testing the new motion detectors and door/window sensors from 2024, and so far, they are still consistently connected. It’s evident that there’s a significant issue with Aqara, which also uses the Zigbee protocol, as their devices couldn’t even last 2 hours. Perhaps it’s a battery problem, as some have reported issues that were resolved by changing to different battery brands. In any case, I’m pleased to have rid myself of Aqara modules, especially considering Ikea’s products are much more affordable. Therefore, either there’s a problem with Aqara’s hardware or an issue with their application, but I don’t believe it’s related to Zigbee, as it works very well with Ikea.

The problem is the combination of Aqara devices with Ikea devices on Homey.
There are a lot of posts about this topic if you search.

As reported in the thread I had issues with Aqara sensors without IKEA sensors, so for the specific issues I had it had nothing to do with IKEA.

The issues with Aqara sensors has been resolved (for me at least) for all sensors now as also reported so they (finally) work.

As a final comment I bought a Vallhorn sensor to try out which have worked fine from a connectivity standpoint (and not caused issues with Aqara sensors or anything similar).

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I bought a Vallhorn to try out and it has done the job well but today I noticed a lot of false positives which is less than ideal obviously, not sure what triggered this (change of light?) yet though.

About Aqara, it’s the combination with Homey (and in my situation in combination with Ikea filament lights). It works fine with Ikea plugs.
Without these lights: zero issues.

Ikea + Aqara + zigbee2mqtt: not one issue. None.

Resurrecting this thread in vain hope of help 🙂

So I got all the sensors working with the new firmware as posted in late 2023/early 2024. The sensors have behaved well. So I did the mistake of ordering a bunch of new ones.

After doing many dances of “trying to pair and press the range-check repeatedly” I have gotten finally 3 out of 4 working but it seems completely random. The behaviour in addition to a bit too long pairing process to be comfortable is that the sensors work like a charm, for roughly one hour and then just stops updating. Same as initially reported in this thread.

Sometimes (?!) the name Lumi is given, sometimes unknown during the pairing process - still it’s a gamble if they keep working after an hour or not. If they do, they seem to stay stable on.

I am considering getting a M2-hub and move all Aqara devices to that and use matter as a workaround but given that I have _almost_ all sensors working after a lot of tries I am fumbling for any help to get it to work better. And I will not buy more Aqara sensors for a while 🙂

Did you put new batteries in the sensors?

No, I have not tried getting new batteries for the the last sensor (out of 4) I cannot keep staying in the network - which perhaps should be pointed out are brand new sensors.

It seems well-documented that the Zigbee implementation is iffy (see e.g. [Aqara MCCGQ11LM control via MQTT | Zigbee2MQTT](https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/MCCGQ11LM.html) ) but given I had experienced identical behavior a year or two ago which then was resolved in conjunction with a firmware update (which I believe was the most probable reason) I was hoping for a regression bug that could be fixed.

I can pick up some batteries at the next opportunity and try it out but given no other aqara sensor I’ve had had battery issues from the start where I remove the plastic blocker it seems like a bit of a long shot.

I just discovered I have the same problem as you with one of my water leak sensors.

Installed a new battery in the sensor. Restarted the app. Performed a repair for the sensor in the app. Close to Homey. The sensor is working again.

Please note that if you move the sensor to a different location (not close to your Homey), your sensor may lose its connection to the ZigBee network, as it cannot find the mesh router device anymore to which it was connected during pairing. Some devices will try to find a different router in the mesh to connect to after some time, some not. Hence it is advised to always pair ZigBee devices at their final location.

Can you confirm that the problem you are experienced is that you get a connection, which is stable for about 1 hour and then stops responding to ping from developer portal, register events etc?

I’m troubleshooting the sensor, so to avoid the risk of issues with routing I’m pairing close to the Homey and then leaving the sensor 1dm away for a bit more than an hour.

For a “normal” Zigbee (or Z-wave, or Thread) device I would however do what you describe.

</div>

That makes sense. Hope you can track down the issue. Not sure how many ZigBee devices you have connected to your Homey that are also located near your Homey. If many, your sensor might still be routed via one of those other devices, as Homey has a limited number of spots available for direct connections.

Note that for Z-Wave devices, it is the other way around: the need to be paired close to the coordinator; Homey in this case (see knowledge base article: [Creating a stable Z-Wave network](https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/360012182213-Creating-a-stable-Z-Wave-network)).

We don’t ask just for fun to change the battery.
Just put a new one in and see if it makes any difference. Brand new devices can contain bad batteries. It happens.
