**Device Request - Soil Moisture Sensor SGS02Z - \_TZE284\_nt4pquef / TS0601**

Hi, could you please add support for the Tuya Zigbee soil moisture & temperature sensor **SGS02Z** (also sold as SG502Z)? It is the successor of the SGS01Z, which is already supported by the app.

manufacturerName: `_TZE284_nt4pquef`
productId: `TS0601`
Battery powered soil sensor (moisture %, temperature C/F, battery level)

It uses the same TS0601 (EF00 cluster) datapoint scheme as the supported SGS01Z (`_TZE284_aao3yzhs`): DP3 soil moisture (%), DP5 soil temperature, DP9 temperature unit, DP14/DP15 battery. Confirmed working in zigbee2mqtt (TS0601\_soil) and ZHA quirks: [[External Converter] TS0601 from \_TZE284\_nt4pquef · Issue #10315 · Koenkk/zigbee-herdsman-converters · GitHub](https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee-herdsman-converters/issues/10315) and [[Device Support Request]: Tuya Soil Moisture Sensor SG502Z (\_TZE284\_nt4pquef) · Issue #4707 · zigpy/zha-device-handlers · GitHub](https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/4707)

Suggested fix: add `_TZE284_nt4pquef` to the Soil Sensor driver’s manufacturerName list.

I own two units and can provide a full device interview from Homey Developer Tools and test a build if needed. Thank you!

Hi, I just added an issue for supporting a new device, is there any estimate time for the code to be done? I can send a PR if it quickens the work, as I see that the last commit on master is 5 months old. Best regards,

Let me put it like this: I made my own version of the app adding the devices myself. That sounds more spectacular than it is. It means just adding some lines to some config files.

Hi Kay,

You won’t find those numbers anywhere in the online shops, even if you find an identical device then the internal hardware may be different.

Best regards Peter.

</div>

They are all compatible with Tuya ZigBee but in Homey that’s a different thing, they are not always working or if you’re lucky it’s been adding as a Universal ZigBee device.

You can always try to contact the app developer @dlnraja and ask to add your device to his test app if you can’t connect it.

Best regards Peter.

If you don’t find a tuya driver for your devices, then make your own driver app.
Not hard.
Or Go for other maker non tuya.
Or add a tuya-multi-hub. Tuya is lowcost but pain in the..

I’m with you on this one, Peter! It used to be quite a hassle to find devices that come close to how little you pay for Tuya devices. Nowadays, there’s Aqara, Shelly, Robbshop etc. Depending on your needs there is often something that is working just fine out of the box and doesn’t break the bank.

Just be careful with devices that are not explicitly Tuya branded. In most cases if you look carefully the Tuya label is somewhere there on the box. Or the app that the brand has looks a lot like the Tuya apps. Then you know what you’re dealing with 😉

At least for me, all devices work perfectly. There was only 1 issue which was caused by a bug in the Tuya Homey app, so not Tuya’s fault. Many devices I pair with the Tuya mobile app gets recognized by Homey, and if they don’t you can make workarounds with Tap-to-Run or the Other device. Also, Tuya is still by far the cheapest in almost every device category, and has the most choice in almost every device category

My reaction was a bit to short in hindsight.
I meant it in a way Tuya _ **Zigbee** _ devices on Homey can be a hassle, gamble or just plain difficult for users like @Kai_Dybvik , who don’t want to, or can’t dive into technical stuff to find out if something will work or not.
Plus, Tuya Zigbee devices have to be purchased before one can discover if it will actually work @ Homey.

These problems are almost non-existent when using zigbee2mqtt.
I use a bunch of Tuya zigbee plugs w/o a problem with z2m.

As I don’t like cloud dependency, I now use the Tuya Local app for my Tuya wifi stuff I bought back in 2020.

I still use Tuya zigbee & wifi stuff, but the wifi stuff will be replaced by f.i. zigbee stuff when it dies on me 😉

Probably because the newer Tuya Zigbee devices are not supported. With a Tuya Zigbee gateway (I use one as well), you can connect them using the official app. I use everything with the new official Tuya app by Drenso. The only device I didn’t get working using the Other device type was a Zigbee temperature sensor (via gateway), but I used Tuya Expo virtual devices and created Tuya automations to set the precentage of a virtual light for every temperature change. Then, I was able to create a virtual device in Homey to make it show up as a temperature sensor.

@Kai_Dybvik mentioned that adding a device as generic Zigbee device, lookup the IDs in order to request them to be added to the Tuya Zigbee app is too much hassle. Which is ok, we don’t all like tinkering with the technical nitty gritty stuff. People that like that can also use Home Assitant.

If that is the assumption, I don’t think Zigbee2MQTT or creating an own version of the app is a viable option. That’s why I suggest moving to other non-Tuya brands
