Hi all,

We have eight Rointe radiators and towel rails, and until now they reached Homey the long way round: a Home Assistant integration, bridged into Homey, with the Group app on top to heat several rooms at once. It worked, but changes took up to 15 seconds to show, Homey offered a “cool” mode the radiators don’t have, and heating depended on Home Assistant staying up. So I built a Homey app that talks to Rointe’s cloud directly.

It works with accounts on Rointe’s Nexa platform: the ones you use with the **Rointe Nexa** app.

**Live, not polled**

The app keeps a live connection to Rointe’s cloud, so a change made on the radiator itself or in the Rointe app shows up in Homey within a second or two, and a change from Homey reaches the radiator just as fast.

**What each radiator gets**

- **Room temperature** and **target temperature** (7–30° in half degrees). Setting a target switches the radiator to heat at that temperature, as the Rointe app does.
- **Heat, Schedule or Off.** Schedule follows the radiator’s own Comfort/Eco timetable, and the target shown follows it through the day.
- **Comfort, Eco and Frost presets** , using the temperatures saved on each radiator.
- **Heating** : whether it’s warming the room right now, logged in Insights.
- Shows as offline in Homey if a radiator loses its connection.
- **Flow cards** from Homey’s standard thermostat set: set the temperature or the mode, the mode is or isn’t, the target or room temperature changed or passed a value, and started or stopped heating.

**Two dashboard widgets**

- **Heating dial** : pick the radiators the widget controls, tap the ones you want (or none for all), turn the dial and press Heat. Off switches them off. Each radiator chip shows its temperature, or its target while heating.
- **Heating groups** : named groups like “Lounge/Dining” or “Bedroom/Shower Room”. Tap a group, turn the dial, press Heat. Each row shows whether the group is heating, partly on or off, with its temperature. Tap **Edit groups** to add, rename or delete groups and pick the radiators in each. Groups are shared, so the same ones appear on your phone and your tablet.

**Apple Home and Siri**

The radiators work with **HomeKitty** , so you can bring them into Apple Home from Homey. Each one appears as a thermostat with Off, Heat and Auto (Auto follows the radiator’s own schedule), with no cooling options, and shows **Heating** while it’s actually warming the room and **Idle** once it’s reached temperature. That means Siri, Apple Home scenes and automations, and Control Centre all work, without Home Assistant in between.

If you already use the **Group** app for your radiators, Heating groups copies those groups across the first time it opens, matched by radiator name. After that you can remove the Group app if nothing else uses it.

**Getting started**

1. Add a device, choose **Rointe** , and sign in with your Rointe Nexa email and password. Your password is only used to find your radiators and isn’t stored.
2. Pick the radiators and towel rails to add.
3. Add the Heating dial or Heating groups widget to a dashboard.
4. For Apple Home, add the radiators in HomeKitty.

**Not included (yet)**

- The radiator switches: window detection, presence detection, silence mode, do not disturb, frost protection and the local/remote locks.
- Changing the Comfort, Eco and Frost temperatures from Homey (use the Rointe app for now).
- Power and energy readings, and Flow cards for presets and the switches.
- Older accounts on the **Rointe Connect** platform. If you’re still on Rointe Connect and would like this, please say so.

**Tested on** eight devices on one Nexa account: a mix of older and newer Rointe radiators and two towel rails. Other Nexa radiators should work the same way, but I’d love to hear from you whether yours does or not. If something isn’t right, please post which radiator you have and what happened.

**Test version** : [Rointe | Homey](https://homey.app/a/com.simplepc.rointe/test/)

This is a community app and isn’t made or supported by Rointe. It uses Rointe’s cloud the same way the Rointe app does, so if Rointe change their service, it may stop working until it’s updated.

Thanks to JYewman, whose Home Assistant integration for Rointe made this possible.

**Update: Rointe 0.3.0 is in test**

Hi all, a new test version is up.

**What’s new**

- **Know when a radiator drops off.** Two new Flow cards on each radiator: **Went offline** (with the reason as a tag) and **Came back online**. A radiator counts as offline when Rointe reports it offline, for example if its Wi-Fi drops, or when Homey can’t reach Rointe’s cloud for 5 minutes. Shorter blips reconnect quietly without setting anything off. A handy Flow: _When Went offline, send a notification with the Reason._
- **No more frozen values.** If Homey can’t reach Rointe, the radiators now show as unavailable (“Can’t reach Rointe; reconnecting”) instead of quietly showing old temperatures, and they come back by themselves when the connection does.
- **Reconnect to Rointe** action card. You shouldn’t need it, as the app reconnects on its own, but it’s there if you want a manual fallback.
- **The app icon shows properly.** The red circle on the app page and the Flow cards were blank; they now show the radiator icon.
- **New pictures** for the app and the radiators.

**Please test**

If one of your radiators goes offline this week, I’d love to hear whether **Went offline** and **Came back online** fired, and what the Reason said.

**\*\*Update: Rointe 0.4.0 is in test: holiday mode\*\***

Hi all, a new test version is up with a holiday mode, which I wanted for our winter trips.

**\*\*How it works\*\***

Tell it when you’re back, and while you’re away each radiator does what you’ve chosen for it:

- **\*\*Frost\*\*** (the default): low heat, so nothing freezes.

- **\*\*Off.\*\***

- **\*\*Holiday schedule\*\*** : on at set times and off in between. We use 9–12 and 6–10 so the main rooms are warm for our cat, who stays home while someone pops in.

- **\*\*Leave alone.\*\***

At the return time, every radiator goes back to exactly how it was: Schedule, Heat at the same temperature, or Off. You can choose to switch back 1–6 hours early, so you come home to a warm house. A holiday carries on through Homey restarts.

**\*\*Three ways to start one\*\***

- The **\*\*Heating groups\*\*** widget: tap **\*\*🧳 Holiday…\*\*** , pick the day and time you’re back, and press Start. While you’re away it shows “On holiday until …” with an End holiday link.

- **\*\*App settings\*\*** (Rointe → Settings): choose what each radiator does, set the holiday schedule and temperature, and start, change or end a holiday.

- **\*\*Flow cards\*\*** : Start holiday until [date] at [time] (run it again to change the return time), End holiday now, Holiday started, Holiday ended, and Holiday is / isn’t on.

**\*\*Worth knowing\*\***

The radiators get their commands through Rointe’s cloud, so if your internet goes down while you’re away, each one carries on with whatever it was last told until the connection is back. Frost is the safe choice; the Went offline Flow card will tell you if the connection drops.

**\*\*Please test\*\***

Set it up before you need it: open Rointe → Settings, choose what each radiator should do, and try a short holiday (say 10 minutes) to see it work. I’d love to hear how you get on.

**What I’m testing this week & what’s coming in 0.5.0**

Hi all, a quick one on what’s going on behind the scenes, as it’s been a busy week with the radiators!

So, did you know a lot of Rointe radiators have a presence sensor built in? It sits in the control panel on the right hand end, and the Presence Detection setting uses it to turn the radiator down when nobody’s in the room. I wanted to know if Homey could use it too, so I sat at the kitchen table with my laptop and walked laps between the kitchen, the lounge & the hallway like a man possessed. The good news, the movement reaches Homey within a second, so it’s quick enough to use for Homey’s zones. The not so good news, once a radiator has seen you it goes quiet for about 10 minutes before it reports again, and our hallway radiator kept reporting movement in an empty hall!

My money’s on the sun, it moves round the bedroom & hallway at midday, so this week the app is recording every movement report from every radiator in Insights. Next week I’ll match them against where the sun was and when the rooms should have been empty, and see which radiators can be trusted. Monté, our cat, is doing his bit for science too, his food bowls are right in front of the dining room radiator 🐈

Also in the works for 0.5.0:

- Radiators as motion sensors for Homey’s zones, with a switch for each radiator so you can leave out any that get fooled.
- A timer for towel rails, using the rail’s own countdown timer, so you can have the shower room on for 30 minutes before bed and it switches itself off. Ours turn the room into a sauna if they’re left on!
- Window open detection, with Flow cards.
- Flow cards for the Comfort, Eco & Frost presets, and changing those temperatures from Homey.
- An estimate of power use for Homey Energy.

The current test version is 0.4.0 with holiday mode, and 0.5.0 will follow once the week of testing is done.

Can I ask a favour? If your radiators have Presence Detection, have you noticed it reacting when nobody’s there, and does your room get much sun on it? And does anyone use the countdown timer on their towel rails? I’d love to hear how you get on.

**Update: Rointe 0.4.2, now in Dutch, French & Spanish, and off to Athom for certification**

Hi all, a quick bump with some news!

Rointe has been through its first certification review with Athom and came back with a list of homework, which in all honesty was fair enough. My drawn pictures weren’t real enough, the widget previews had too much text on them, and the description needed to be more of a tagline. So the app now has a proper photo of one of our radiators in the hallway, a real device picture, cleaner widget previews and a new tagline, “Warm rooms, exactly when you want them.” 0.4.2 is with Athom for review now, so fingers crossed it’s in the App Store soon.

While I was at it, the app is now in Dutch, French & Spanish as well as English. Before anyone asks why not German or the Nordic languages, I checked where Rointe actually sell their radiators, and it’s Spain, Portugal, France, the Netherlands & Belgium, the UK and Ireland. So everything is translated for those countries, the widgets, the holiday settings, the Flow cards, the lot. If Dutch, French or Spanish is your first language, I’d really appreciate a quick look, I’ve done my best but a native speaker will spot things I won’t!
If you have Rointe radiators in your Country and I haven’t added the translation, please let me know.

Also new in 0.4.2:

- Radiators with Presence Detection switched on now show Motion when they spot someone, and it’s logged in Insights. This is the first step towards using them for Homey’s zones.
- Towel rails no longer show Motion, as they don’t have a presence sensor (they have a countdown timer instead, more on that soon!).

On the presence sensing, the week of testing is under way. So far the reports reach Homey within a second, which is brilliant, but the radiators go quiet for around 10 minutes after each report, and our hallway one has been seeing ghosts. Monté, our cat, keeps setting the lounge & dining room ones off too, so he’s earning his keep 🐈

Have you got Rointe radiators at home? Which models are they, and does Presence Detection behave itself in your rooms? Let me know your thoughts?
