VThermo requires that you set energy estimates under the device’s advanced settings. Can you check that you have filled in “Energy used when on” (or something like that) for Bad termostat?

Thanks, that was indeed the issue.

“Energy used when on” was empty for Bad termostat. I have now entered an estimated 1200 W, with 0 W when off. I also noticed that Bad Lille termostat had 0 W entered when on, so I corrected that to an estimated 400 W.

After reopening the PELS control panel, Bad termostat is now detected correctly. The “PELS cannot limit this device’s power” message is gone, Power-limit control is available, and PELS shows 1200 W as the expected power when running. Bad Lille termostat now shows 400 W.

I then enabled Power-limit control and “Leave off until turned on again” for Bad termostat and tested the new behaviour while PELS was in Away mode:

- Turning it on externally returned it to normal PELS control.
- Turning it off externally switched both VThermo and the physical ELKO thermostat off, and PELS kept it off instead of restarting it.
- “Keep the new temperature” retained a manual target change from 26.0 to 25.5 °C during normal operation.

I did notice one possible edge case: while the device was already held off by “Leave off until turned on again”, changing the target from 26.0 to 25.5 °C was initially accepted by Homey, but PELS later restored it to 26.0 °C. The same temperature change was retained when the device was on and under normal control. Is that expected while a device is in the held-off state?

So the original device-detection issue was caused by the missing VThermo energy estimate, and the new on/off behaviour otherwise appears to work as intended.

Thanks for testing so thoroughly.

On the edge case, “Leave off until turned on again” and the “When the temperature changes outside PELS” configurations are independent of each other, so this is not something I’d expect, honestly. It would be good with a diagnostics report sent shortly after reproducing this. Not sure if VThermo could have interfered here.

Hi! Would it be possible to let the user configure a relative temperature reduction for power limiting?

The temperature set directly on the heat pump would remain the desired temperature. When power limiting is needed, the user could choose how many degrees PELS should temporarily reduce the current desired temperature by. When the limitation ends, PELS would restore the latest desired temperature. An optional minimum-temperature limit would also be useful.

This would combine manual temperature control with PELS power limiting.

I tried to reproduce the VThermo edge case again, both in Home and Away mode. With Bad termostat held off by ‘Leave off until turned on again’, I changed the target externally from 26.0 to 25.5 °C. This time 25.5 °C remained through several PELS control cycles, so I could not reproduce the issue.

I nevertheless sent a diagnostics report for reference: 427ccd75-3791-4a1d-8241-e27e29645a04

The report was created after the new tests, not immediately after the original occurrence, so the relevant event may no longer be present in the logs. I’ll send a fresh report immediately if it happens again.

So this is probably possible, but there are consequences of making use of this.

In a way, there are two features here that could be made independent: one is allowing manual changes to override a PELS power limit. The other is applying a delta when power limiting instead of setting a fixed temperature.

When applying delta, it depends on the size of the delta, but I’d assume a user would want a fairly small delta here.

If e.g away → home has a larger delta than the power limiting delta, you could easily end up with a situation where the power limiting doesn’t limit at all.

As for manually overriding a power limited device, you could also end up in a situation where the device activates and consumes energy again, and the power limiting doesn’t have any effect. And in this case, the best scenario is that some higher priority devices would be power limited instead (which goes against the point of the priority order), and worst scenario, you’d go over capacity.

I’m also not certain what signal should clear the override. Power limiting is per-device, and with an override, there wouldn’t be any “this device is no longer power limited” signal. One could use the signal “is the whole home spending over capacity limits”, but this one is hopefully really short. The last option I can think of would be to clear it when the next hour starts.

Given one wants to allow a manual override, the advantage I can see with delta is that the manual temperature change probably is smaller than a fixed set temperature. But otherwise, these are similar.

</div>

Hi Ole Markus, could you clarify the capabilities of these two integrations in PELS 3.1.0?

- **Daikin ONECTA:** Power limiting is available using a fixed temperature or turning the unit off. Selecting “Keep the new temperature” prompts PELS to switch power limiting to “Turn off”.
- **Sensibo:** Power-limit control is disabled and PELS says it cannot limit the device’s power, although temperature and on/off control work in Homey. The device exposes `target_temperature` and `se_onoff`, whereas Daikin uses `onoff`.

Is Sensibo unsupported for power limiting, or could this be a configuration/detection issue?

For both pumps, I want to change the desired temperature outside PELS while retaining power limiting—preferably to a user-selected limiting temperature, with shutdown if necessary, then restoring the latest desired temperature. Which parts of this are supported today?

</div>

`onoff` is the “official” capability for turning a device on and off. PELS supports this for all devices exept for EV chargers, which has a different set of “official” capabilities.

`se_onoff` is specific to the app support, and I add support for such capabilities on request. If PELS cannot power limit at all, it may be that the device reports no power usage. If it doesn’t support `onoff` capability, it may be that Homey doesn’t add the power usage settings under advanced settings as well.

</div>

Thanks, that explains it.

I checked the Sensibo-controlled heat pump in Homey. The Sensibo device exposes `se_onoff`, not the standard `onoff` capability. Could you please add support for `se_onoff` in PELS?

Sensibo is only an IR controller and cannot measure or report the heat pump’s actual power consumption. PELS would therefore need to use a manually configured estimated power value for a Sensibo-controlled heat pump. If Homey exposes the advanced energy-estimate fields for the Sensibo device, I can enter a reasonable “Energy used when on” value there.

I would be happy to test `se_onoff` support in the test release when it is available.

Do you see the energy settings on the device now? If not, it unfortunately won’t help to add support for the proprietary capability in PELS.

</div>

No, I checked the Sensibo device’s Advanced Settings in Homey, and no energy settings are available. It only shows Polling interval, Delay for offline, Exclude from Climate, and the device note.

So you are correct: adding support for `se_onoff` alone would not be enough if PELS requires Homey’s energy settings to enable power limiting.

Would it be possible for PELS to provide a manual estimated-power field for devices that cannot report their own power usage, such as IR-controlled heat pumps? The user could enter the heat pump’s approximate configured or rated power consumption in watts. It would not provide an exact live measurement, but it should give PELS a reasonable estimate of how much power the heat pump normally uses while running, making approximate power limiting possible.

Ideally, this is added by the app instead of by PELS. But yes, it is possible to add this to devices without any other power telemetry.

Thanks, that sounds like a good solution. A manual estimated-power field in PELS would be very useful for Sensibo-controlled heat pumps and other devices without power telemetry. I’d be happy to test it together with `se_onoff` support in the test release when available.

PELS 3.6.0 is now live. There have been a few fairly substantial additions, so a quick overview:

- **Built-in Easee control** : PELS can now adjust charging current directly on supported Easee chargers, without requiring a Flow for every charging level. Existing Flow-based configurations continue to work, and using the built-in control is optional.
- **Setup & recommendations page** : It can point out things such as:
  - devices where built-in control is available
  - Flows that may conflict with PELS
  - cars that can be associated with a charger for battery readings

- **15-minute electricity prices:**. This means price-based temperature adjustments can react within the hour rather than treating the whole hour as having one price level.
- **15-minute capacity control** : PELS can now manage capacity based on a 15-minute average rather than only an hourly average.
- **Export prices from Homey Energy** : For homes with solar, you can also choose whether the export price should come from the values configured in PELS or from the export price configured in Homey Energy.
- **Direct Power by the Hour integration** : PELS can now get electricity prices directly from **Power by the Hour**. No Flow is needed between the two apps.

Hi @Ole_Markus_With,

How does it reduce power on the Easee chargers? I start charging via RFID (the charger is connected to Circle K because it’s a company car). If the charger is paused via the pause function rather than just having its amperage adjusted, I have to scan the RFID card again to resume charging. If the amps are adjusted to 5-6 amps the charger enters a pause state, where RFID is not needed when ramping up the charger again.

Best regards, Fredrik

Thanks for explaining. My suggestion concerns Home/Away/Holiday modes, while keeping power limiting in control when needed.

Could PELS support configurable temperature setbacks for Away and Holiday, relative to each device’s Home temperature? Ideally, each device could choose whether returning Home restores a fixed preset or the last manually selected Home temperature.

For example: manually set 22°C → Away 20°C → Holiday 17°C → Home returns to either 22°C or a configured 24°C. Both setbacks would use the same Home baseline, without accumulating.

Is this possible with the current settings, or could it be considered?
