Hi,

I just started to get serious with home energy management and found this app for my Enphase system which is really handy. I have a metered gateway with CT’s and the latest version of the app (1.5.2). However in flows I do not have the possibility to set ‘doelvermogen’ etc, I only have ‘turn on’ / ‘turn off’.

What am I doing wrong? It would be great to set production limiting to my own energy usage.

You’re not doing something wrong (probably 😉 )
The app tries to detect what hardware is present and adjusts the available features accordingly. There’s probably something wrong with the detection for your specific combination (and history) of hardware.

The “Enphase Solar” device dashboard-page has indicators for what hardware/features are present (like “metered gateway”). What do they tell you?

If some of those indicators are wrong, please delete the device, re-add it and within 15 minutes send an App Diagnostic Report so I can take a look. Thanks for helping out!

Thanks for your quick reply.

On the dashboard-page ‘productiebeperking’ was on ‘nee’. I deleted the device and re-added it. That made ‘productiebeperking’ to ‘ja’. I checked in flows and there I have the extra options now.

Thank you.

Cool, problem fixed I guess. 😅

I would’ve still liked to have know what went wrong in the first place. The reason I mentioned the 15 minute window though is because the App Diagnostic Report only sends me the last X verbose/debug lines (don’t know the exact number). So the next time something funky happens, please use the App Diagnostic Report within that timeframe. Thanks!

_The above also goes for other users here who encounter a bug/something strange 😉_

I’ve come across a problem with the app.
It could no longer connect to the Gateway as of 7.35 this morning (UTC+1)
“not available
request to [https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx/production.json](https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx/production.json) failed, reason: connect EHOSTUNREACH XXX.XXX.XXX.XX:443”

When trying to repair I get the error “Error: Unknown\_error\_getting\_file”.

I’ve tried rebooting the app but that didn’t seem to work.
Just now at 10.54 it started functioning again.

So all is fine for now, but there might is a reliability issue.

PS. The official Homey Enphase app kept working without any hick ups, so its not the actual gateway.

@bramtops I can forward you a diagnostic if you want?

</div>

I’ve received the diagnostic report and looked it over, thanks.

What happened is that the gateway wasn’t reachable or wasn’t responding to polling requests from the app. This actually happens way more than you’d might think. The app has a 30-minute grace period before it marks the connection as actually lost to Homey. This would simply be the first time the connection wasn’t restored _within_ 30 minutes.

Besides the usual causes (i.e. unstable wifi), this also happens when the gateway is ‘overloaded’; the ‘webserver’ on the gateway has limited resources. It might be that other app(s) were hogging the connection- and/or sessionpool. If this happens to often, try disabling _other_ apps that are _also_ polling the gateway – like the official Enphase app.

(I haven’t implemented the Homey repair function for this app yet, which is causing the “Unknown\_error\_getting\_file” error, but the app will auto-heal/auto-repair anyway.)

Thank you for the quick response and explaining what probably happened. I’ve been running these apps next too each just to try and see both their accuracy, stability and functions. Maybe the day has come to disable the official Enphase app and reroute the flows.

Much obliged!

I’m reading this topic with interest, I have an Envoy S metered, only with version R5.0.55 which has no support for https. Is it useful to upgrade to R7/R8? Because R5 has unrestricted API access which for sure is gonna break in the R7/R8 releases.

So maybe you can build something you can choose between http / https? For me http is not a real issues, because the smart devices are on a separate IoT VLAN.

</div>

Hmmm… Besides the https change, I have no clue what and how the API endpoints worked back on R5. They might be (mostly?) the same, but maybe not. I’m not really looking forward to making the app that far backwards compatible – it would add significant development/debug time, especially since I have no means to test/ it on my end.

Whether or not upgrading to R8 is worth it for you I can not tell you; I don’t know your specific setup and use cases.

The entire app is opensource though. You could just copy it, change https to http in a few locations and try for yourself.

new feature:

Dear Bram, A solution for Homey to determine if a Enphase system controller is off grid (Home Backup mode running or on grid (normal)
Could you add a capability that reads the IQ Gateway’s local: /ivp/ensemble/relay endpoint. This endpoint exposes the status of the IQ System Controller grid relay/MID. The resulting Homey capability should ideally provide:
On-grid
Off-grid
Synchronizing with grid
Manual override
Unknown or communication failure
It should also add Flow cards such as:
When: Grid state changed
And: Enphase is off-grid
Then: available for notifications, disabling heavy loads, stopping EV charging, etc.
The local Enphase API does make the grid relay status available; it simply has not yet been implemented in these Homey apps. IQ Gateway endpoint documentation Home Assistant already implements grid, MID and grid-relay states from this data, which confirms that the information is technically accessible. Home Assistant Enphase integration

Thanks

Johan

The app page mentions the visibility of live power, but I can’t get this to work.

I have a metered Envoy installed with measuring coils; however, I only receive the 1-minute updates on my phone from the cloud. How do I ensure that I actually get the live info from the measuring coils visible in Homey?

@bramtops first of all: thank you for the app, it is super usefull. I have 1 question: i cannot shut down power production for my Enphase system. I am logged in under an installer account and the on/off option is available. When i turn it off the device status also indicates that power production is off. I have an unmetered gateway, so i waited almost an hour after turning it off, but nothing seems to happen. It keeps generating power and returns it to the grid. Do you have any idea how i can really turn them off?

Hi guys! Im currently still on vacation, I expect to resume development in the second half of september.

@Eas_37 I used my real information. But I dont think it matters either way.

@Rene_Loef Developing features for devices I dont have through public beta’s is cumbersome (we’ll need multiple builds to iron out the bugs). Do you have or are you willing to run the Homey SDK so I can send you sourcecode of the new builds?

@Johan_van_der_Knokke Excellent idea. This should be more straightforward to implement, although I also don’t have the means to test this in a live situation. I’ll put it on the list though.

@Patrick_ten_Den When you say “receive updates on my phone from the cloud”, you mean in the Enphase Home device, right? It should be more frequent. Could you send me an app diagnostic report?

@Ben_Van_Mierlo Obviously what you’re doing should work and should (slowly) turn off all the inverters within half an hour or so. Maybe there’s yet another different configuration i’ve not taken into account. Could you send me an app diagnostic report _a few minutes after_ you’ve turned off the power production?

Hi,

I am a bit handicapped for not having a laptop I can install software on. I did manage to install homey sdk on my phone, so I can pull the source from GitHub and push it to homey though.

The small display is a bit cumbersome, but it is manageable as long as I don’t have to write a lot of code.

UPDATE

This time it worked. The panels stopped power production after half an hour. I don’t know why it did not work in the previous test, but this time it worked fine. So you can close this issue. Thanks.

Yesterday, my CT-clamps were installed on the metered gateway, but it still shows no at ‘besturingstoegang’, which means I’m not able to cut the production. Any idea what I should do to get the access?

@Joep_Vullings have you installed the ct clamps also in the Toolkit app from Enphase?
If so, maybe re-install the app without delete the app will help.
