I’ve pushed a fix for this bug, turned out it read a wrong signal. Version 1.3.3 should fix this.

Hi Joshua,

I’ve updated to version 1.3.3, but I’m still experiencing an issue with my Danfoss ICON room thermostats connected through the Danfoss Ally Gateway. I have a Danfoss ICON (1) system in my home.

The problem is consistent regardless of operating mode:

- Homey always displays a target temperature of **35.0°C**.

- The Danfoss Ally app displays the correct target temperature (currently 10°C - vacation mode).

- The actual room temperature is reported correctly in Homey (and in my Ally app).

- The problem occurs both in normal operation and vacation mode.

- The devices are added as **Danfoss Icon Room Thermostat** , which is the only device type that discovers them.

It appears that the integration might be reading or interpreting the wrong setpoint parameter for ICON devices.

Could you investigate whether the ICON thermostat setpoint is handled differently from regular Ally thermostats?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am limited to provide support only for the devices I use myself. The bug @Ramas_A told me about was verified using the data I received back from my own Icon2 thermostat and patched with that data. It made total sense what the app read and wrote wrong in this case.

The Icon (1) devices are not supported (see first post) and I’m not going to either since I’m unable to verify anything I do for those. That could only introduce bugs in anything we’ve got working with Icon2 right now.

The working features with Icon 1 devices is just pure luck.

I did find a small bug that made the readings different in holiday mode compared to normal mode. That is fixed now in v1.3.4. There’s a small chance that also fixes the bug for your Icon1 devices, but again: that would be pure luck. Let’s hope you’re lucky 🙂

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I fully appreciate that you have practical limitations related to hardware versions of the Danfoss universe 🙂
I have put ICON 2 on my wishlist, but swapping this out is quite expensive (~ €3-3500 for my home), so it will have to stay on hold for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for your efforts! 🙂

That’s a big investment indeed.

If you can find any informatio non this I’d happy to look. But it can’t be anything that potentially messes up what is working already. I’ll give a a try with reverse engineering the Home Assistant setup. If I recall correctly there was something in there that identified different version based on device names, but I have no clue if that did anything to the datamapping.

To be honest it feels like an issue at Danfoss. All I do is read fields like “set\_temp”, “max\_temp”, etc. For some reason that turns out to different for Icon1 and Icon2 thermostats, which.. makes no sense.

Hey Joshua,

I am facing same problem with Ally App and my Danfoss Icon2 system. Homey pulls the wrong temperature values, making manual control impossible.

My Setup:
• 2x Icon2 Main Controllers + 7x Icon2 RT wireless thermostats (088U2121) via Ally Gateway.
• Everything is in Permanent Manual Mode (no schedules).

The Problem:
• Wrong Data: Homey ignores the active setpoint. It reads the static “ **Set room temperatures at home** ” value from the Ally settings. If I change the “At home” value in the Ally app, Homey changes to that exact number.
• UI Snapping: When I turn the wheel in Homey, the physical thermostat actually changes and starts heating. But after 40 seconds, the Homey UI snaps back to the “At home” value and refuses to show the real target temperature.

Hope this helps in any way.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the extended description of the issue all (@Klemen_Selan, @Odd_Arne_Danielsen, @Ramas_A, @b34ck). I’ve had a bit more time yesterday and today and was able to setup a few tests with AI confirming the bug and it’s fix.

I can’t test it myself right now, but I’ve published the new fix in 1.3.5 which is available for installation.

Let me know if this patched it!

Hey Joshua,
Unfortunately, I am still encountering the same issues after updating the app to 1.3.5.

Hei again,
Really appreciate your efforts, especially for me and maybe others a bit off the main path with ICON 1 🙂

I’ve done some testing; 1.3.4 seemed to solve the issue with “stuck” set value to 35 C. The units now seem to show the actual set value. But (there is a big but), the units does not respond well to changes.
I’ve upgraded to 1.3.5 and fiddled a bit with setting various modes from Homey and my native Danfoss Alley app on my iPhone immediately shows icons for the various modes set via the app. The units do however not initiate an energy request for opening the valves when, for instance, changed from vacation to At home. It seems like the mode is set to the unit, but this does not register “properly” and acts a bit schizophrenic in that respect.

Anyway; I greatly appreciate your efforts trying to fix issues “in the blind” 🙂

I’m going to let AI have a look at it with all your replies and the HomeAssistant app as context. Perhaps this finds anything I’m just not seeing right now! I’ll get back asap.

AI came back with a plausible cause and fix.

v1.3.6 is live to install.

**What was wrong**

Two separate problems, both specific to Icon systems.

First, the temperature Homey showed was not the one your room was actually set to. Homey was reading the preset temperature stored in your Ally settings instead of the setpoint your room is really running. That is why it could sit at 35 degrees, or follow your “at home” setting no matter which mode you were in. This was fixed in the previous updates.

Second, changing a mode from Homey did not reach your radiators. The mode arrived in the Danfoss cloud, which is why the Ally app immediately showed the new mode, but the gateway never passed it on to the valves. So nothing started heating. It turns out Danfoss requires an extra, undocumented piece of information to be sent along with a mode change before the gateway will act on it. Homey was not sending it.

**What is fixed now**

Mode changes from Homey now include that extra information, and Homey also pushes the new mode’s temperature down to the room so it actually starts heating. Switching from vacation to at home should now behave the same as doing it in the Ally app.

Separately, Icon thermostats with a floor sensor can now report floor temperature. If yours was added before this update it will have been added as the basic type, so you will need to remove and re-add it to get the floor reading.

Thanks to everyone who tested and reported back. These problems only show up on real hardware, and the reports are what made them findable.

Hi again, 1.3.6 now sees to that mode changes to my ICON 1 system is accepted and acts as real changes, triggering valve actions etc. Thanks!! This enables me to use triggers in my heating source (Thermia heat pump) to set desired mode mode based on advanced flows. However, a new issue has emerged; probably in 1.3.4 or 1.3.5 (at least before 1.3.6), a change solved the 35 degree issue, but units now seems to be locked to the “at home” set value, for instance my kitchen as my screenshot shows. This set value displays even if the uints are set to vacation or even pause mode, both from Homey through the Ally integration, but persists even when I set vacation mode from my native Ally app. The system apparently does not use the value and does not regulate accordingly, - just showing the set temperature for “at home”.

Good news on the mode changes, thanks for confirming. The temperature display problem you have now is my fault: in 1.3.5 I changed how the app picks which temperature to show, based on a single piece of evidence from an Icon2 system that I read too confidently. It made the app always show the at-home value, which is exactly what you are seeing.

The next update puts that back the way 1.3.4 had it, so vacation shows your vacation temperature and pause shows your pause temperature. I have also added handling for rooms that are set manually at the thermostat itself, which was the case the 1.3.5 change was meant to solve, done properly this time.

We’re getting close, let me know if this was the final piece of the puzzle 🙂

Hi,

I’ve now upgraded to 1.3.6, but the problem with “stuck” set temperatures persist, I’m afraid. I’ve tried to change modes back and forth (which now functions seamlessly), but the set temperature is firmly stuck to “home” value.

Just to be sure, I’ve tried to delete a device and installed it again, and also restarted the app a few times, but no luck.

The fix is in v1.3.7 actually. Which is on me, I forgot to hit publish last night. It’s available now.
