Hi Michal,

I’ve noticed some people requesting support for ESA. Which doesn’t work with your app, I’ve tried. I have fixed it for myself and those users by creating an alternative for only ESA users. Maybe saves you some trouble as well. Maintaining apps can be quite the effort, especially with ever changing hardware as we both know and ‘giving coffees’ is not in the interest of users.

You can focus on the already great GoodWe app and don’t have to work on integration with local ESA support.

Hijack was the wrong phrase probably.

Hi Alex,

You’re missing my point.

I have absolutely no issue with you developing an alternative app for ESA users. In fact, I welcome solutions that help the community.

But that’s not what this discussion is about.

My concern is that you chose to advertise your app in a support thread that I’ve spent years building and maintaining.

Whether your app supports different hardware or potentially saves me development time is completely irrelevant to that point.

I’m perfectly capable of deciding which features and devices I want to support in my own app.

All I’m asking is that you respect another developer’s work and promote your project in your own dedicated thread.

I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request.

It’s not promotion.
That would suggest i could make money on it. I develop for the community. I have no donation links, nor will I ever have and I basically let the community decide what hardware support I will put in the app. Only reason I ‘hijacked’ your post is to help the community with their ESA systems.

So sorry for hurting your feelings and making you upset.

And to all. If you have an ESA. There’s now an app for that as well.

Alex,

Are you seriously suggesting that something only counts as promotion if you make money from it?

Do you honestly think I’ve been paid for the countless hours I’ve spent developing, maintaining, fixing bugs, and supporting this app over the years?

I’ve invested thousands of hours of my own free time into this project. And what did I get financially? A few coffees a year in donations, if that.

**And I find it particularly arrogant that you seem to think having no donation link somehow makes you morally superior to someone who has spent years providing free software and support to this community.**

Congratulations, you don’t accept donations. Does that make you a better developer? A more generous person? Does it somehow give you the right to dismiss the work of someone who does?

Having a donation link doesn’t mean I’m getting paid for my work. It means that after years of unpaid effort, people have the option to buy me a coffee as a small gesture of appreciation.

**The audacity of using that distinction to portray yourself as the selfless developer helping everyone, while simultaneously exploiting the community and visibility someone else spent years building, is quite remarkable.**

So please, spare me the lecture about developing for the community. I’ve been doing exactly that for years, long before you decided to advertise your project here.

The difference is that I didn’t build my community by jumping into another developer’s established support thread to advertise my own work.

**Using someone else’s years of effort, visibility, and community to draw attention to your own project is parasitic behavior.** Whether your app is free or paid makes absolutely no difference.

And your sarcastic “sorry for hurting your feelings” only makes your attitude worse. This isn’t about hurt feelings. It’s about basic respect and professional courtesy.

What’s particularly astonishing is that even after being explicitly asked to stop, you ended your response by advertising your app in my thread yet again.

You clearly have no intention of respecting that boundary.

**If you want an audience for your app, build your own. Don’t exploit the one someone else spent years creating.**

I’m done discussing this with you.
